Concord Piles Up Top-10 Finishes at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's track & field team rolled up a total of 16 top-10 finishes at the Marshall Alumni Invite Saturday at the Cline Athletic Complex.

A total of six top-10 finishes came in the mile and 3,000-meter runs.

Concord gathered up fourth, fifth and seventh in the mile. Junior Braden Ward ran a personal-record time of 4:22.48. Sophomore Reese Hickey also posted a career-best time of 4:25.03. And junior AJ Skeens ran 4:27.80.

Ward was also fourth in the 3,000-meters as he sported a time of 8:41.12. Fellow junior Bramley Childress ran 8:50.60 for eighth. Sophomore Brandon Canaday followed in ninth as he clocked 8:53.94. Hickey was just outside the top 10 as he placed 11th in 9:05.58.

The 5,000-meter run was just as successful for CU.

Freshman Johnny Walkup went under 16 minutes for the first time in his career as he clocked 15:54.46, finishing fourth. Junior Andrew Tickle was a spot back in 16:07.70. And graduate student Bryce Legg sported a career-best time of 16:28.08 in sixth.

Sophomore Tobi Adebulu recorded three top-10 finishes. He was second in the pole vault (3.00 meters), seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (9.89 seconds) and 10th in the 1,000-meter run (3:09.10).

In the field events, sophomore Dallas Ford just missed a school record in the triple jump with a mark of 13.93 meters, only 0.04 meters off the record set by Nathan Tanner in 2011. Ford finished fifth.

Junior Daminn Cunningham marked 6.74 meters in the long jump as he placed eighth.

Redshirt freshman Dom Collins sprinted 6.90 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish fourth. And in the 400-meter dash, freshman William Jackson made a strong debut by clocking 51.46 seconds to finish seventh.

Collins (18th/23.26 seconds) and Jackson (20th/23.37 seconds) were in the top 20 in the 200-meter dash. Freshman Myles Gurnee ran 53.49 seconds in the 400-meters, good enough for 14th.

Fellow freshman Zach Neal came through in 2:19.77 in the 800-meter dash to place 19th.

Rounding out the top finishers for the Mountain Lions was junior Shawn Bennett

Concord is back in action January 23-24 at the Liberty Open.
