Concord Makes Short Trip to Charleston's Golden Eagle Invite

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's and women's track field teams begin the final month of the outdoor season at the Golden Eagle Invite hosted by the University of Charleston Friday.

Junior Braden Ward continued his strong form by running 9:41.05 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Dr. Jack Toms Invite at Lynchburg. Sophomore Reese Hickey (9:50.82), junior AJ Skeens (9:53.78) and junior Andrew Tickle (9:54.14) all went 10 minutes in the event. The quartet is ranked in the top eight in the Mountain East Conference in the event. Ward ran 15:04.78 in the 5,000-meter run at Lynchburg. Freshman Myles Gurnee got around the track in 57.58 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles which is the fifth-fastest time in the MEC this spring. Fellow freshman Johnny Walkup ran a career-best time in the 10,000-meters (32:42.86).

Sophomore Cassidy Hammonds nearly broke the school record in the triple jump with a mark of 11.24 meters. Junior Kiley Smich made her season debut by leaping 10.75 meters in the triple jump. Both marks are top five in the MEC. Sophomore Cierra Parker placed second in the high jump at Lynchburg with a clearance of 1.58 meters. Freshman Violet Wall finished third in the 1,500-meter run (4:46.34) and was fourth in the 800-meters (2:18.43). Junior Sara Turner recorded a career-best time of 41:17.54 in the 10,000-meters which is sixth in the conference.

GOLDEN EAGLE ENTRIES
Gurnee, freshman William Jackson and sophomore Aaron Miller will double up in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Jackson and Miller both have entry times in the 400-meters inside the top 15. Freshman Zack Neal will double up in the 800-meter and 1,500-meters. Neal will be joined in the 1,500-meters by graduate student Connor Cormack. Junior Shawn Bennett has had an outstanding start to the outdoor season, and looks to keep his momentum going in the discus with sophomore Tobi Adebulu, freshman Isaac Treadway and sophomore Marquise Walker. The same quartet will be in the shot put. And Adebulu is entered in the high jump with sophomore Daminn Cunningham.

Two featured events for the Mountain Lion women will be the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Junior Zakiya Jackson and sophomore Kendall Lilly will be in the blocks for both. Hammonds and Smich are scheduled for the 100-meters while sophomore Jenna Webb is entered in the 200-meters. Freshman Chloe Cox (32.84 meters) and junior Meagan Poticher (32.39 meters) are both coming off personal-record throws in the discus at Lynchburg as they are entered in the event at Charleston. Sophomore Gracie McAlister will join the duo. The freshmen quartet of freshman Elna Albisson-Simon, Avery Lilly and Molly Jones and Alison Miller compete in the pole vault.
