ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University Athletic Director Luke Duffy has announced the hiring of John Ross as the new head men's and women's golf coach.

Ross brings professional golf experience to Concord as he was a four-year member of the PGA Tour from 1989-1993. As a journeyman on the top tour of golf, Ross enjoyed his best seasons in 1992 and 1993 where he competed in 44 total tournaments, making the cut 23 times.

"After 25 years of playing professionally, I'm looking forward to the opportunity of rebuilding a program that has significant success in the past," Ross said.

Ross's best season came in 1992 when he recorded four top-25 finishes. Along with his success on the PGA Tour, the native of North Carolina spent parts of seven seasons on the Korn Ferry Tour—the premier pathway to the PGA Tour. He had 23 top-25 finishes, seven top-10 placings and three finishes inside the top 25 from 1990-1998.

Before playing professionally, Ross played at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

"John's experience and playing success at the highest level speaks for itself," Duffy said. "We know he is excited to restore our golf programs to be able to compete with the best teams in the Mountain East Conference and the Atlantic Region."

Within the state, Ross is a two-time West Virginia Open Champion, having won the tournament in 1997 and 1999. His 1997 victory came at nearby Glade Spring in Daniels, West Virginia. He is also a four-time runner-up in the state championship with his most recent second place coming in 2009.

Ross has also worked as the club pro at the Princeton Elks Country Club in Princeton, West Virginia.
