Concord Set for Final Indoor Tune-Up Meet at Marshall

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's and women's track & field teams prepare for their final regular-season indoor meet of the season when they travel to the Marshall Jewel City Invite Friday and Saturday at the Chris Cline Complex in Huntington, West Virginia.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Cassidy Hammonds led the top performances for the CU women's team. She sprinted a personal-record time of 7.97 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish third at Roanoke College. Hammonds won the long jump with a mark of 5.07 meters, and clocked 27.24 seconds in the 200-meter dash to place eighth. Freshman Violet Wall posted a time of 1:04.67 in the 400-meter dash to finish 11th. Fellow freshman Avery Lilly was in the top 15 with a showing of 1:08.39.

Several Mountain Lions had strong showings on the men's team across various events. Sophomore Dallas Ford was a winner in the triple jump with a mark of 13.47 meters. Fellow sophomore Tobi Adebulu placed fourth in the heptathlon with a career-best point total of 3,661. He ranks sixth in the MEC in the seven-event sequence. Sophomore Brandon Canady placed fifth in the mile with a time of 4:34.51. Redshirt freshman Dom Collins was the runner-up in the 60-meters at Roanoke, stopping the timer at 6.92 seconds. Freshman William Jackson was 10th in the 400-meters with a time of 52.42 seconds.

MARSHALL ENTRIES
This weekend will be the last chance for CU to get qualifications for the upcoming MEC Indoor Championships February 23-24 at the Cline Complex—the top 16 in each event qualify for the conference championships. Wall is safely in the 800-meters with the second-best time in the MEC of 2:20.63. Lilly is looking to join Wall in the 800-meters with a seed time of 2:26. Also in the 800-emters will be freshman Molly Jones, junior Charlotte McGinnis and freshman Larissa Wickline. Wall is entered in the mile with Lilly, McGinnis, Jones, Wickline.  sophomore Larah Blevins and senior Emma Londeree. Junior Sara Turner is on the bubble in the 5,000-meters with her previous time of 19:26 ranking 21st in the MEC. She will compete alongside junior Piper Doughton and Londeree. Junior Meagan Poticher is 23rd in the MEC in the shot put (9.99 meters). She is entered at Marshall with freshman Chloe Cox and Hammonds.

There's only one CU men's athlete in the top 25 of either the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Jackson is currently 18th in the 400-meters (51.22 seconds). Jackson will be in the blocks with sophomore Aaron Miller, senior Andrew Beohler and freshman Myles Gurnee. The same four athletes are in the 200-meters along with sophomore Nate Cogle and senior Ryan Covington. Several Concord athletes are on the bubble from the 800-meters up to the 5,000-meters. In the 3,000-meters this weekend will be Canaday, junior Bramley Childress, sophomore Reese Hickey, freshman Johnny Walkup and junior Wes Holcomb compete. Childress is currently 18th in the MEC while Canaday is 22nd. Sophomore Daminn Cunningham has secured his spot in the long jump for the MEC Championships with a current ranking of sixth. Ford is just on the outside in 18th while Adebulu also competes in the event.
