Leichner was named the Mountain East Conference Freshman of the Year while also landing on the All-MEC First Team. The Christiansburg, Virginia was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions at the MEC Championship as he placed sixth in a time of 27:07 for the 8,000-meter course at Oglebay Resort
