Shawnee Carnett has earned a berth into the 800-meter run at the 2014 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held May 22-24 at Allendale, Michigan on the campus of Grand Valley State, the national office announced last week.
Â
The 800-meter preliminary races will be held at 6:15 p.m. Friday May 23 with the championship race being conducted Saturday May 24 at 7:05 p.m.
Â
Carnett will be aiming to win the third 800-meter national title of her illustrious Concord career, and second of the year, after winning the indoor championship in March as well as the outdoor 800-meter crown in 2011.
Â
The Sugar Grove, Virginia native earned her latest trip to the national championships by running an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:06.19 at the Tennessee Relays on April 10. The time is the fastest 800-meter mark in NCAA Division II this season.
Â
It was also announced last week that Carnett received United States Track & Field and Cross Country (USTFCCCA) all-region honors for the 2014 outdoor season in both the 800-meters and the 1,500-meter run.
Â
Last week's announcement was yet another in the long list of accomplishments for Carnett, who in four years at Concord has been named an All-American on five occasions, earned nine USTFCCCA all-region awards, five conference titles as well as breaking 12 Concord records and being named the 2014 Mountain East Conference Athlete of the Year in addition to her aforementioned three national championships.
