STRONG ARMS
On Sunday and Monday versus West Liberty and Wheeling, the CU pitching staff was rock solid as it only allowed 12 runs in 28 innings of work. Sophomore pitcher Kaden Varela-Payne struck out seven batters Sunday afternoon as he continues to lead the Mountain East Conference in strikeouts with 49 this season. Senior pitcher Kerry Collins backed up his complete game against Salem by only allowing two runs Monday against Wheeling in four innings of work. Junior pitcher Jake Robinson had one of his best outings this spring by striking out four in 1.2 innings against Wheeling. The 12 runs allowed by CU are the fewest in a four-game stretch since the four-game series at West Virginia Wesleyan last season the Mountain Lions surrendered 10 runs in four games.

RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK
Senior catcher Austin Hear has turned into one of the best defensive catchers in not only the MEC, but the Atlantic Region. The Centerville, Indiana native has thrown out 13 runners in 24 chances this year. Hear leads the Atlantic Region in base runners thrown out. On Monday, Hear threw out a runner against Wheeling and has only allowed one stolen base in his last eight games, and just 11 for the season. Hear's offense has started to pick as of late too. In the four-game weekend, he was 4-for-9. The 13 baserunners Hear has thrown are the most for a Concord catcher since Jordan Clark threw out 14 runners in 2019.

LAUNCH PAD
In Concord's last visit to Emory & Henry—last April 15, the Mountain Lions set the single-game program record for home runs as they hit 10 long balls. Junior infielder Nick DiSanti and senior catcher Kaden Swaim each connected on two home runs. Senior outfielder Korbin Bostic, senior infielder Tyson Burke and senior infielder Matthew DiSanti each had one home run. The 10 home runs weren't quite enough as CU fell 19-17 to Emory & Henry. The Wasps recorded four home runs and seven doubles in the contest. The DiSanti brothers combined for six RBI. Burke and Swaim added two RBI each.

GET BACK GAME
Ahead of Tuesday's game, Concord owns a 5-3 all-time series advantage against Emory & Henry despite the Wasps' offensive slugfest win last spring. In last year's first meeting, Concord broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a six-run frame en route to an 11-8 win in Athens February 25, 2025. Bostic was 3-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI. Senior outfielder Dawson Gragg drove in two runs and also robbed a home run that ended up on ESPN's SportsCenter Top Plays. Sophomore utility Braylen Baker was the winning pitcher, and pitched in both games versus E&H last year.

SCOUTING THE WASPS
Emory & Henry was swept in conference play by nationally-ranked Wingate over the weekend. E&H has three dangerous bats in Ky Gregoire (.405 avg/.730 slug/15 RBI) Jadden Rodriguez (.376/.578/18 RBI) and Kyle Fields (.317/.538/31 RBI). The Wasps have a team ERA of 11.18. Former Concord pitcher Jacob Nester has won four on the mound and has 36 strikeouts in 50.1 innings.
