CHARLOTTE – The Concord University men's track & field team was impressive in its second outdoor meet of the season at the Charlotte 49er Classic Friday and Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.
CU tallied nine personal-record performance across various disciplines.
Three Mountain Lions finished in the top 15 of the 10,000-meter run. Junior
Braden Ward posted the top time in the Mountain East Conference this season as he clocked 31:23.92 and finished fourth overall. Sophomore
Brandon Canaday ran to a time of 32:20.46 in the 10,000-meters and finished 13
th. Sophomore
Reese Hickey came through in 32:28.83 to place 15
th.
Staying with the distance events, junior
Bramley Childress placed 10
th in the 5,000-meter run as he ran a personal-record time of 15:19.75—it is the fifth-fastest time in the MEC this season. Freshman
Johnny Walkup ran the ninth-fastest time in the conference this spring with a showing of 15:34.64. He finished 17
th at Charlotte. Junior
Andrew Tickle stopped the clock at 15:41.02 to place 22
nd.
Three of the personal records for Concord came in the hammer throw as junior
Shawn Bennett tossed 35.31 meters. Freshman
Isaac Treadway threw 30.86 meters and sophomore
Marquise Walker marked 24.21 meters.
Bennett had two more career-best showings as he threw 11.69 meters in the shot put, and 35.16 meters in the discus.
In the 800-meter run, junior
AJ Skeens hit a career-best time of 2:00.91. Sophomore
Jaedan Holstein also recorded a career showing of 2:05.78.
Sophomore
Daminn Cunningham had the fourth-best long jump in the MEC this season by marking 6.53 meters. He followed it up with a fourth-place showing in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters.
Sophomore
Tobi Adebulu finished ninth in the decathlon. He scored 4,751 meters with his best events being the high jump (644 points/1.82 meters), the 100-meter dash (554 points/12.51 seconds) and the discus (531 points/33.34 meters).
Junior
Wes Holcomb was 20
th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he ran 11:26.39.
Concord next competes at the Dr. Jack Toms Invite at the University of Lynchburg March 27-28. Â
