SEEKING A GOAL
For the first time in program history, dating back to 1997, CU played in back-to-back scoreless draws, at Davis & Elkins and at Charleston. The Mountain Lions did maintain their unbeaten mark in MEC play as they enter the weekend with a 2-0-2 record. In the last two games, Concord has dominated possession while outshooting D&E and Charleston by a combined 37-16. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Loughborough has made four saves in each game to stretch her scoreless streak to 300 consecutive minutes. The starting backline of senior Jessica Neville, sophomore Ella Rowell and freshman Cecelie Skelde have assisted on the shutout streak that is 308 minutes overall.

THE GOALS WILL COME
Concord begins the weekend ranked top five in the MEC in both shots (72/fifth) and corner kicks (fourth/30). The Maroon and Gray has taken at least 14 shots in five of six games this fall. And the Mountain Lions have not been shutout in three straight games since 2016, head coach Luke Duffy's first-year on the sidelines in Athens. WVSU begins the weekend with a scoreless streak of 321 minutes.

TAKING THE STING OUT
Sunday will be the 11th all-time meeting between Concord and West Virginia State with CU owning a 5-2-3 record against the Yellow Jackets. Last year's two meetings were very different in nature with the teams playing to a scoreless draw at WVSU before the Mountain Lions won in the final 10 seconds against West Virginia State at home. The first meeting in 2024 featured just 14 combined shots, but behind the bevy of offense in October 2024 the game had 31 combined shots. CU led 3-1 at halftime powered by a brace from sophomore midfielder Tiana Campbell before All-American Sydney Tucker tucked in the game-winning goal with eight seconds remaining. Senior forward Caitlin Webster had a brace in a 2-1 win over WVSU in 2023.

GROUNDING THE FALCONS
Concord will be challenged Wednesday as it welcomes Fairmont State to Athens. FSU is the highest scoring offense in the MEC, averaging 4.6 goals per game and notching 23 goals for the season. Fairmont State's 23 goals are tied for sixth in Division II. The Mountain Lions have only allowed more than two goals to Fairmont twice in 15 all-time meetings, 2023 and 2017. Concord is trying to avoid its first three-game losing streak to the Fighting Falcons after FSU won both the regular-season contest and the MEC Tournament Quarterfinal game last season, both 2-1 scores. Webster scored in the regular season contest while sophomore forward Ailsa Swinburne accounted for the goal in the postseason.

TOP FORM
After Wednesday, the Mountain Lions will conclude by far its toughest stretch of the season. Including Charleston, CU will have played the last three MEC Tournament Champions in consecutive games. Furthermore, West Virginia State and Fairmont State have combined for nine wins. Following the FSU game, Concord's next five opponents have combined for the same amount of nine victories. As it currently stands, no other MEC team will have to play the two MEC Division leaders in back-to-back games this fall.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
West Virginia State nearly ran into its own scoreless tie against Davis & Elkins, scoring in the 74th minute of a 1-0 victory over the Senators Wednesday. One of WVSU's best players, Sara Paris Filter was ejected Wednesday night for two yellow cards. Laura Pouedras had the game-winning goal Wednesday which tied her for the team lead in goals. Poppy Bastock has a goals-against average of 1.16.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING FALCONS
Montserrat Diaz, Arrington Sparks, Serenity Thomas and Sam Yuen are all tied for the MEC lead in goals as the quartet have accounted for 16 of FSU's 23 goals. Olivia Johnston has only allowed one goal in more than 350 minutes in goal. Fairmont State has yet to play a conference game on the road. The lone game away from Duvall-Rosier Field was a 9-0 win at Salem. FSU plays at Wheeling Sunday before visiting Athens Wednesday.
