Concord Concludes Regular Season at West Virginia Wesleyan's Jasmine Claggett Invite

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's and women's track & field teams have their final regular season meet Friday when they travel to the Jasmine Claggett Memorial Invite hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan at Cebe Ross Field.

LAST TIME OUT
Both Mountain Lions track & field teams won the team event at the Concord Invite April 11. The CU women's team won the meet with 221 points as Concord won seven individuals events. Junior Kalyn Williams swept the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Freshman Cassidy Hammonds was victorious in the long jump and 110-meter hurdles. Hammonds and Williams helped CU to a win in the 4x100-meter relay with graduate student Trina Lewis and freshman Kendall Lilly also on the relay. Sophomore Meagan Poticher took the win in the javelin with a personal-record throw of 31.81 meters which is also sixth in the Mountain East Conference this season. And senior Madison Cornett crossed first in the 5,000-meter run with a season-best time of 18:52.03.

The Mountain Lion men racked up 189 points. Concord got 1-2-3 sweeps in both the pole vault and 5,000-meter run. Freshman Luke Davis won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.05 meters while senior Jonny Sweeney and freshman Tobi Adebulu were second and third. Sophomore Braden Ward sported a season-best time of 15:15.61 to win the 5,000-meter run. A pair of sophomores Andrew Tickle and Bramley Childress both ran personal-record times to finish second and third. The 4x100-meter relay of senior Ian Gardner, junior Devon Banks, freshman Landon Meredith and freshman Brady Prior clocked a season-best time of 42.82 seconds in their win.

Friday is the last chance for the Mountain Lions to make it into the top 16 of their respective events for the upcoming Mountain East Conference Championships April 27-29.
Williams is currently on the bubble of the 200-meters as her season-best time of 26.25 seconds is 15th. She will be in the blocks Friday along with Lewis, Lilly and freshman Jenna Webb. Only 15 athletes in the MEC have run the 3,000-meter steeplechase this season. Senior Kaylee Dixon, sophomore Piper Doughton and junior Emma Londeree attempt to make their way into the top 16 of the event. In throwing action, graduate student Abbey Wallace is currently 17th in the shot put, but is just 0.02 meters behind 16th at 10.60 meters. She is entered in with sophomore Katie Howard, Poticher, who is 25th in the conference, and freshman Amaya Smith. And in the discus, Poticher ranks 14th in the MEC—over a full meter ahead of 17th. She looks to improve her position with Howard, freshman Gracie McAlister, who is 21st, and Smith.

Meredith is currently 19th in the MEC in the 100-meters. He is entered in the event with Banks, sophomore Ryan Covington, freshman Jaden Judges and freshman Chris Williams. Freshman Reese Hickey is ranked 23rd in the conference in the 800-meter run. Others joining Hickey in the event are freshman Brandon Canaday, sophomore Garrett Hatcher, senior Madoc Lathroum, senior Bryce Legg and senior Zach Wilson. Junior Alex Irvin is hanging onto 15th in the 10,000-meter run while Childress needs to move up three spots in the event. Sweeney sits 24th in the javelin, and freshman Tobi Adebulu is a spot back. They are scheduled for the javelin with sophomore Shawn Bennett and junior Martin Medrano.
