ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's track & field team finished first at the Concord Invite Friday night at Callaghan Stadium.
The Mountain Lions won with 189 points. The next closest was Glenville State with 153.5 points.
The scoring for CU started Thursday night in the pole vault contested at PikeView High School. Concord swept the top three spots in the event. Freshman
Luke Davis cleared 3.05 meters to win the event. Senior
Jonny Sweeney went over a career-best height of 2.31 metes to place second, and freshman
Tobi Adebulu finished third at 1.83 meters.
Davis finished second in the long jump with a mark of 6.17 while his toss of 44.45 meters was good enough for third in the javelin.
Concord got a top-three sweep in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore
Braden Ward ran a season-best time of 15:15.61. Fellow sophomore
Andrew Tickle crossed in 15:22.12 for second with sophomore
Bramley Childress coming through in 15:28.55 which was third. Both had career-best showings Friday night.
The Mountain Lions got a win in the 4x100-meter relay as the quartet of senior
Ian Gardner, freshman
Jaden Judge, freshman
Landon Meredith and freshman
Brady Prior ran a season-best time of 42.82 seconds.
Two more wins were collected in the middle distance events of the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run. Freshman
Aaron Miller clocked a career-best time of 51.01 seconds. And senior
Ethan Board covered a half mile in a season-best time of 1:59.46 to claim victory in the 800-meters.
Gardner clocked a personal-record time of 22.25 seconds in the 200-meter dash as he placed second. Prior was right behind in third in a time of 22.62 seconds. Davis placed second in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing in 16.72 seconds. Adebulu (18.67 seconds) was third.
And in the 100-meter dash, Meredith and Prior both ran 11.20 seconds. Meredith placed third while Prior was fourth.
CU is back in action next Friday, April 18 at the Jasmine Claggett Memorial Invite hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan.
