Concord Gears Up for Trip to Lynchburg for Dr. Jack Toms Invite

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's and women's track & field teams will make the first of two consecutive trips to the University of Lynchburg when they compete at the Dr. Jack Toms Invite Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
Junior Ian Gardner had one of the top performances for the Mountain Lions at the 49er Classic hosted by Charlotte. Gardner clocked 49.71 seconds in the 400-meter dash which was the fastest time in the event in the Mountain East Conference this spring. Graduate student Gerard Hearst recorded a time of 10.85 seconds in the 100-meter dash over the weekend. He has now run the two fastest 100-meter times in the MEC this season, 10.66 seconds two weeks ago and this past weekend's showing. Freshman AJ Skeens clocked 10:13.43 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to place 15th. Graduate student Alex Watty ran 1:58.89 in the 800-meters.

Graduate student Emily Wallace finished the 1,500-meter run in 4:41.73 at the 49er Classic which is the fastest time in the MEC this season. Sophomore Emma Jenkins put together a showing of 2:32.51 in the 800-meters which is third fastest in the conference heading into the weekend. Freshman Nadiyah Abdussalaam tallied 3,167 points in the heptathlon to finish 20th. Abdussalaam also placed 20th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.99 meters. Sophomore Lilly Jackson's toss of 26.93 meters at Charlotte ranks fourth in the conference.

TOMS INVITE ENTRIES
After his stellar 400-meter showing, Gardner leads CU into the 200-meter dash. Gardner (22.12 seconds), freshman Jaidyn Foddrell (22.70) and freshman Bradley Harris (22.74) are all seeded under 23 seconds. Watty will once again be entered in the 800-meters. He and junior Ethan Board have the same entry time of 1:55.45. Freshman Braden Ward (1:58) and Skeens (1:59) are seeded under two minutes. In the 1,500-meters, freshman Jaedan Holstein (4:08), Ward (4:08), Skeens (4:15), junior Zach Wilson (4:15), freshman Bramley Childress (4:20) and sophomore Alex Irvin (4:20) are all seeded at or better than 4:20. A total of 13 athletes are in the 1,500-meters for the Mountain Lions. Freshmen Wes Holcomb and Andrew Tickle make their college debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Like the men, 200-meters and 800-meters are both featured events for the Concord women. Freshman Izzy Williams has the top seed time for CU in the 200-meters at 25.79 seconds. Freshman Marin Parker (27.60), junior Kylea Pollinger (28.67) and Abdussalaam (29.39) are also entered. Wallace leads the Mountain Lions in the 800-meters with a seed time of 2:20.27. Junior Kaylee Dixon and sophomore Colette Lindley are both seeded at 2:40 as Lindley's time came last weekend in Charlotte. Concord has several athletes in the field events. Graduate student Abbey Wallace is entered at 10.56 meters in the shot put. Senior Shayla Short has an entry of 9.84 meters while freshman Meagan Poticher (9.31 meters) and senior Taylor Perry (9.03 meters) are also above nine meters. Jackson, senior Alaina Mills and Poticher were the top placers for CU in the javelin last weekend and are entered at Lynchburg.
