ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University head women's basketball coach
Tesla Southcott has announced the signing class for the 2023 recruiting cycle.
The 11 newest Mountain Lions hail from four different states: Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Additionally, two players come to CU with previous college experience. Below is a breakdown of each recruit.
Name: Deja Atkinson
Hometown: Millersville, Md.
High School/Last School: Old Mill/Glenville State
Height/Position: 5-10/Guard
About Deja: Atkinson was reduced to 19 games this past season due to injury, but shot 45 percent from the field. During Glenville State's national championship season in 2021-22, Atkinson played in all 35 games.
What Coach Southcott Says: Deja will be a great versatile position player to help our athletic and quick pace lineup. She's a proven winner.
Name: Autumn Bane
Hometown: Princeton, W.Va.
High School: Princeton
Height/Position: 5-8/Guard
About Autumn: Helped Princeton make its first state tournament appearance in a decade this past winter. Bane was named Class AAAA Honorable Mention All-State.
What Coach Southcott Says: Autumn will provide great work ethic and a gritty mentality to our program.
Name: Kayley Bane
Hometown: Pineville, W.Va.
High School: Wyoming East
Height/Position: 5-10/Guard
About Kayley: Bane was part of Wyoming East's Class AA State Championship team in 2023, and was on the team for state runner-up finish in 2022. Was named Honorable Mention All-State.
What Coach Southcott Says: Kayley will provide great versatility and is a very fundamental player.
Name: Skylar Davidson
Hometown: Mullens, W.Va.
High School/Last School: Wyoming East/Glenville State
Height/Position: 5-4/Guard
About Skylar: Davidson spent the last two seasons at Glenville State, and was on the GSU National Championship team in 2022. Davidson played 19 minutes per game and shot 33 percent from three-point range this past winter.
What Coach Southcott Says: Skylar will be a great floor commander. She has a lot of experience at a high level, and she's a proven winner.
Name: Adyson Hines
Hometown: Lindside, W.Va.
High School: James Monroe
Height/Position: 6-1/Forward
About Adyson: Hines was named Class A First Team All-State after helping the Mavericks advance to the regional final in 2023. She averaged a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Hines' dad is a CU alum.
What Coach Southcott Says: Adyson is a great post player that can stretch the floor. She's proven she can rebound at a high level.
Name: Jamecia Huntley
Hometown: Salisbury, N.C.
High School: West Rowan
Height/Position: 6-0/Forward
About Jamecia: Huntley scored more than 800 points over the final two years of her high school career while winning state championships at Salisbury and West Rowan.
What Coach Southcott Says: Jamecia is a versatile post player that can attack the rim while playing inside out. Her greatest strength is her defensive intensity.
Name: Colleen Lookabill
Hometown: Corrine, W.Va.
High School: Wyoming East
Height/Position: 5-10/Guard
About Colleen: Lookabill was a key piece in Wyoming East making back-to-back state championship appearances while winning the 2023 Class AA state title. She was named All-State Honorable Mention.
What Coach Southcott Says: Colleen comes with a phenomenal work ethic and great team-first attitude. She will be a huge asset to our team.
Name: Haylie Payne
Hometown: Paynesville, W.Va.
High School: River View
Height/Position: 5-9/Forward
About Haylie: Payne was named Class A All-State Honorable Mention after playing for a successful program under head coach Gehrig Justice.
What Coach Southcott Says: Haylie is a work horse on the floor and has shown she's a great rebounder.
Name: Brooke Sanders
Hometown: Bland, Va.
High School: Bland
Height/Position: 6-2/Forward
About Brooke: Was a dual-sport athlete for Bland as she also lettered in softball
What Coach Southcott Says: Brooke brings a lot of size to the post and has potential in the post.
Name: Ana Young
Hometown: Sugar Grove, W.Va.
High School: Pendleton County
Height/Position: 5-8/Guard
About Ana: Class A All-State guard that led Pendleton County to the state tournament. Young scored 28 points per game and made 87 three-pointers during the season. She also scored 43 points in the state tournament before bowing out to eventual state champion Cameron.
What Coach Southcott Says: Ana is a scoring guard that can play multiple positions while scoring at all three levels. We are super excited to have an in-state guard that has a high ceiling.
Name: Madison Young
Hometown: Stokesdale, N.C.
High School: Northwest Guilford
Height/Position: 5-10/Guard
About Madison: Young was voted second team all-district and Metro All-Conference averaging 15 points, four rebounds and four assisted per game. She shot 55 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the foul line.
What Coach Southcott Says: Madison is a guard with deep range and crafty moves that allows her to score on the perimeter. We are estatic to land a player of her talent.
