ATHENS, W.Va. – Senior forwardsÂ
Abbie Smith and
Olivia Ziolkowski of the Concord University women's basketball team have been named to the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District Team, the organization released Tuesday afternoon.
Smith, a native of Little Hocking, Ohio earns her third straight nod on CSC's Academic All-District Team. In the classroom, Smith has a 3.80 GPA as a business administration major. She is scheduled to graduate in May with honors. Smith's on-the-court work speaks for itself. She was named the D2CCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year after also picking up MEC Player of the Year honors earlier in the month. She averaged 18.8 points and 10.9 rebounds during senior season. Over the course of her career, she scored 1,911 points and collected 1,129 rebounds. She ranks third all-time in both categories at Concord. Furthermore, Smith is also top five at CU in field-goal percentage (54.4), free-throw percentage (78.6) and blocks (112).
Between her time at Marshall and Concord, Ziolkowski has a 3.59 GPA in the classroom as a biology major. The Beckley, West Virginia native started 28 games this season for the Mountain Lions while playing in all 29. She was CU's third-leading scorer during the season by netting 10.8 points per game and grabbing 6.1 rebounds per contest. Ziolkowski ranked third in the MEC in blocks per game (1.4). During her first season at Concord, Ziolkowski recorded two double-doubles with one being in the Mountain East Conference Tournament against Fairmont State.
To be eligible for CSC recognition, student-athletes must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA and have played in 90 percent of their team's games or started 66 percent of the time.
With their credentials, both Smith and Ziolkowski have advanced for CSC Academic All-American consideration which will be announced in mid-April.
