Concord Sets Three Records to Highlight Flames Invite Performances

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Concord University men's and women's track & field teams broke three school records at the Flames Invite hosted by Lee University Friday and Saturday.

The first record to fall was junior Emily Wallace breaking her own school record in the 5,000-meter run Friday night. Wallace clocked 17:47.75 to eclipse her previous mark from earlier this season by five seconds. In a race of more than 90 athletes, Wallace placed 21st.

The next program mark came on the men's side from senior Issac Prather who ran 14:06.84 in the 5,000-meters. He set the record by six seconds as he finished fourth. The old school record was held by Jason Weitzel from last spring. On Friday night, Weitzel who now runs professionally for the Greeneville Track Club in South Carolina was just ahead of Prather. Prather's time ranks top 10 in Division II this season.

On Saturday, junior Hannah Altizer broke her own school record in the 10,000-meter run as she came through in 38:31.50 to surpass her old mark by 23 seconds. The Riner, Virginia native was a top-30 finisher in the event as she placed 29th.

A week after breaking the school record in the 400-meter hurdles, fifth-year senior Marcus Wilson finished fourth in a showing of 56.01 seconds.

In the men's 10,000-meters, sophomore Preston Prather (31:17), fifth-year senior Samuel Haynes and junior Nate Leichner (32:36) all ran top 15 times in the Mountain East Conference.

Junior Alex Watty moved up into the top five of the 800-meter run in the MEC with a showing of 1:56.49. Freshman Ethan Board broke the two-minute barrier in the event as he came through in 1:58.16.

Senior Cedric Drennen stopped the timer at 4:04.44 in the 1,500-meter run.

Freshman Erin O'Sullivan clocked 19:18.66 in the 5,000-meters. And freshman Logan Zuchelli came through in 15:12.65 in the men's 5,000-meters.

The Mountain Lions return to action April 16 at the Golden Eagle Invite in Charleston, West Virginia.
