Concord Impresses at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Concord University men's track & field team was strong in one of its final regular season indoor meets Saturday at the Liberty Open.  

Senior Issac Prather broke his own school record in the mile by crossing the line in 4:12.71 to finish fourth Saturday afternoon. Prather eclipsed his record from last weekend by three seconds. Freshman Logan Zuchelli went under 4:20 in the mile as he clocked 4:19.74 and placed 12th. Senior Cedric Drennen came through in 4:28.69 to finish 22nd.

Prather was stellar in the 3,000-meter run as he circuited in 8:23.58 and finished sixth. In the process, he ran the fastest time in the event this season in the Mountain East Conference. Sophomore Preston Prather crossed in 8:41.91 as he placed 11th. Junior Nate Leicnher ran 9:07.15 and placed 20th.

Sticking with the distance events, sophomore Caleb Hatcher came through in 16:18.33 in the 5,000-meter run as he finished ninth.

Fifth-year senior JT Turner was one of the top finisher for Concord. His throw of 13.10 meters in the shot put was good enough of sixth.

Junior Alex Watty ran 1:58.69 in the 800-meter run as he placed 12th. Zuchelli doubled up on the day to finish 16th in the event with a showing of 1:59.15. In other middle distance action, freshman Ian Gardner sprinted to a time of 51.33 seconds in the 400-meter dash as he placed 14th.

Gardner, freshman Prince Bhebhe, junior Robbie Cochran and Watty combined to clock 3:36.73 in the 4x400-meter relay.

Freshman Terryn Patterson-Bryant sprinted to a time of 7.22 seconds in the 60-meter dash as he finished 20th.

Concord has its final tune-up ahead of the MEC Championships when it competes at Roanoke College February 12.
