Concord Hosts Fairmont State in MEC Semifinals

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team looks to continue their success into the MEC Tournament Semifinals when they face Fairmont State at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex in Beckley, West Virginia Friday at 3:00 p.m.

RECORDS
Concord finished the regular season 15-0-3 overall and 13-0-3 in conference play.

Fairmont is 8-7-3 overall and 7-6-3 in MEC games.
 
ASSISTING THE TEAM
Junior forward Courtney Smith leads the nation in total assists with 16. Smith currently has a four-game streak where she has recorded at least one assist. Last game, junior midfielder Michelle Brogden also has a four-game assist streak even though she did not play in the season finale against Glenville State. Brogden and Smith both have 21 assists in their career and are tied in the CU record book for third in career assists. For senior forward Leah Foster, she has tallied 10 assists which is tied for eighth in Division II.

POINTS PARTY
The Mountain Lions offensive attack is one of the best in the nation. CU has the second-ranked scoring offense, with 66 goals and averaging 3.7 goals per game. Concord also ranks third in total points (181) and points per game (10.06). In the last three games, Concord has scored 20 total goals. The offensive attack led by Smith, fifth-year midfielder Yasmin Mosby and Foster have a combined 21 points in the three-game span. One of Mosby's goals, coming in the 68th minute of the match against Glenville, gave her 101 total points in her career. The Hatfield, England native is the fourth player in program history achieve the milestone. Mosby is tied for second in the nation in total goals with 19. She is also ranked fourth in the nation in total points with 41. Foster is ranked fifth in shots per game, averaging five. She is also tied for 24th in total goals with 12.

SHUTTING OUT THE COMPETITION
Senior goalkeeper Leah Marsh has only faced four shots on goal the last three games, which she has saved all four. CU has not allowed a goal in the last six games and has gone 583 consecutive minutes without allowing a score. The last time that the Mountain Lions allowed a goal was against West Virginia Wesleyan on October 17, where the match finished in a 2-2 draw.

FACING FAIRMONT STATE IN THE POSTSEASON
Friday's match will be the third season in a row in which CU has faced Fairmont in the MEC Tournament. In 2019, Concord defeated FSU, 2-0 in the MEC Championship Game with goals by Mosby and current junior forward Rachel Bell. Last spring, the Mountain Lions won by final score of 3-0 with goals from Smith, Bell, and Mosby in the MEC Semifinals.

FAIRMONT STATE AT A GLANCE
The Fighting Falcons are coming off a 2-0 win over Notre Dame. Kiera Kuzinski had both goals for FSU. Kuzinski leads the team in goals (12) and points (26). Angelina Kaylor had an assist on one of Kuzinski's goals. Kaylor is the team assist leader with 4 on the season. FSU goalkeeper Taylor Kennedy has allowed 22 goals this season. Kennedy has saved 80 of the 185 shots she has faced. CU and Fairmont State tied 0-0 earlier this season with Kennedy making 11 saves.
