DOMINATION AT THE CU CLASSICÂ
The Mountain Lions made a statement at the home opening of the Concord Classic, going undefeated through four matches while only giving up one set the entire weekend. The All-Tournament Team consisted of three seniors, including outside hitter Chloe Thompson, middle blocker Jasmine Anderson, and libero Allie Davis. Anderson and Davis jumped to second in the MEC in their respective categories (blocks per set and digs per set). Thompson took home MEC Offensive Player of the Week after a collection of stunning performances this weekend.
BIG BLUE AND THE MOUNTAIN LIONS: ROUND TWO
After defeating Bluefield State in the last matchup of the CU Classic, the Mountain Lions are looking to snag their sixth-straight win against the Big Blue. Anderson lead the defense for the Mountain Lions denying BSU at the net with seven blocks, holding Big Blue to only six kills in the second set. Her middle blocker counterpart, freshman Addie Adkins, led Concord with nine kills in the match. Six of the eight kills for Thompson in the match came in the first set.Â
SEARCHING FOR FOUR
With only six all-time meetings against the Bobcats, Concord competes for their fourth straight win against Frostburg State on Friday. Holding a 4-2 all-time series lead over FSU, the Mountain Lions will look to keep their momentum rolling on the road. Concord maintaining their strong defensive intensity will be key to securing another victory, as the squad is second in the conference in blocks per set (2.00). In last year's home win over Frostburg State, Thompson piled up 13 kills while Adkins and senior outside hitter Meg Williams each had 12 kills. Williams had a big night on the road at FSU in 2024 with 13 kills and a career-best 23 digs. Senior setter Paige Richmond has had back-to-back 25 assists matches versus Frostburg State.Â
BRICK WALL
Concord and Frostburg State are two of the best blocking teams in the MEC. The Mountain Lions' 2.0 blocks per set are second in the MEC while FSU is just behind with 1.88 blocks per set, third in the conference. Individually, Anderson is one of two players in the MEC averaging at least one block per set. The Bobcats have their own threat at the net in Adele Evans who is third in the conference at 0.85 blocks per set. Adkins is sixth in the confernece with 0.80 blocks per set.Â
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Bluefield State has played eight matches so far, holding a 5-3 overall record. Callesta Styles paces the BSU attack with a .250 hitting percentage while averaging 2.32 kills per set. She also anchors the defense at the net, leading the team with 1.44 blocks per set.Â
The Bobcats are looking to turn around a 3-7 start to their season after picking up a recent win. Alliyah McNair paces the offense by averaging 2.68 kills per set, complemented by defensive efforts from Miranda Ball. Frostburg State will look to change the tide in this sixth all-time meeting against the Mountain Lions.
