ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team celebrates Senior Day when it welcomes Shawnee State to Callaghan Stadium 1:00 p.m. Sunday before traveling to West Virginia State 6:00 p.m. Wednesday in a pair of Mountain East Conference games.

SENIOR SUNDAY
The Mountain Lions will honor their six-player senior class Sunday afternoon prior to kickoff with Shawnee State—though Concord has six home games left after Sunday's clash. The six seniors that will be celebrated are defender

Katie Garratt, goalkeeper
Kayla Garza, goalkeeper
Gabby Griffith, midfielder
Lilly Lucas and midfielder
Emma Simmons. Garratt is the most experienced senior having been on the field in 48 career games. She has scored five goals, three during her freshman year and two more in 2025. Fasen has appeared in 34 games at Concord, starting 18 games as a freshman in 2023 during Concord's run to the NCAA Tournament. In just her third season at Concord, Lucas has played in 31 career games. Garza has been between the posts in six career games, making her collegiate debut at Gannon in 2023. In two previous seasons, Griffith has suited up 11 times in the Maroon and Gray.
IT'S COMING
Over the last two second halves of games against Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan, respectively, CU has taken 27 shots while holding UC and the Bobcats to nine combined shots after halftime. While the Mountain Lions have only found the net once in those two second halves, Concord fired off 16 shots versus West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder

Ella Rowell each took three shots in the second half versus WVWC. Last season, Concord was more of a first-half team as it scored 31 of its 47 goals for the season in the first 45 minutes.
UNFAMILIAR FACE
Sunday will be the first time that Concord squares off with Shawnee State as both teams look for their first win. The only mutual opponent on the young season is West Virginia Wesleyan. Last Sunday, the Bears ended in a scoreless draw with WVWC. A game before the Mountain Lions outshot West Virginia Wesleyan, 26-10, the Bobcats recorded 20 shots against Shawnee State while holding SSU to one shot for the game.
FAMILIAR FACE
The Mountain Lions take on West Virginia State for the 13
th time in program history with Wednesday's meeting on the road. The teams split last season with the home team winning each time. CU picked off West Virginia State, 2-0, in Athens with Cook scoring in the 55
th minute on a Tovar assist. Sophomore forward
Alana Ferguson provided an assist on a 78
th-minute insurance goal. In late October last season, WVSU came away with a 2-1 victory as Concord's goal came on an own goal by West Virginia State. CU held an 11-8 advantage in shots. Concord holds a 6-3-3 advantage in the all-time series, and WVSU has never had back-to-back positive results—win or a draw—against the Mountain Lions.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Not only is Shawnee State still looking for its first win of the season, the Bears are still looking to get on the score sheet for the first time in 2026. In its latest outing on Wednesday, SSU was held to six shots in a home loss, 4-0, to West Virginia State. Shawnee State goalkeeper Harlee Brand has stopped 30 shots through three games while only letting in six goals. Lucie Ashkettle leads SSU with six shots this fall.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
The victory for West Virginia State at Shawnee State was the first of the year for the defending MEC South Champions. Leila Karam, one of the lone returners from last year's team, has two goals and an assist this season. Celina Seggelmann has a save percentage just over 50 percent as she has let in six goals to go with seven saves.
