ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team was unable to overcome two goals in the first half by Charleston as it fell 2-1 Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference clash at Callaghan Stadium.
Charleston (6-7-4, 6-5-4 MEC) scored in the first 80 seconds of the game, and added a score in the 39th minute to double the lead.
After recording two shots in the first 45 minutes, the Mountain Lions (4-11-2, 4-9-2 MEC) got the offense moving forward in the second half. On a free kick in the 51
st minute, sophomore midfielder
Daisy Cook ran onto a bounding ball from senior defender
Katie Garratt and finished off her eighth goal of the season.
It appeared Concord would get a second goal in the 65
th minute as another free kick from Garratt rang off the cross bar before deflecting to Cook who was unable to get a clean look at goal.
Neither team had any shots after the two 65
th-minute attempts by the Mountain Lions.
All three of Cook's shots were on goal. Garratt tallied two shots while junior forward
Liliana Villa and sophomore defender
Molly Watters accounted for the other two CU shots.
With Sunday's loss, the Mountain Lions were officially eliminated for MEC Tournament contention.
Concord concludes the 2026 season on the road at Shawnee State 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. Â
