WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team placed 13
th at the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic hosted by Wheeling at Oglebay Resort's Palmer Course.
Concord posted scores of 310 and 302—the 302 was the best team score since the third round of the Charleston Fall Invite September 9. CU finished with a total of 612 which was just seven strokes away from the top 10.
Freshman
Jackson Williams led the way for the Mountain Lions as he tied for 10
th with a two-round score of 144. Williams shot a career-best even par round of 71 Tuesday and came back with a +2, 73 Wednesday. Williams carded 10 birdies including six during the first round. He birdied the par-5, 539-yard eighth hole in both rounds and played the front nine at -2 for the tournament as six of his birdies came on the front nine. He also finished the front nine Wednesday with three straight red numbers.
Freshman
Jeremy Nguyen rebounded from an 81 Tuesday to card a 73 Monday. He had back-to-back birdies on the par-5, 515-yard sixth hole and the par-4, 422-yard seventh hole as he played the front nine at -1 during the second round.
The freshmen tandem of
Dylan Canterbury and
Henry Lewis both had identical scores of 79 and 78 to finish at 157 for the tournament. Canterbury had a total of six birdies with three in each round—four of the six came on the back nine.
Freshman
Shih-Chieh Cheng finished at 163 for the tournament after rounds of 83 and 80.
Glenville State won the team title by eight strokes after a two-day total of 564. GSU's Fermin Santandrea held off three others by a stroke to grab individual medalist after a 36-hole total of 137.
Wednesday wrapped up the spring season for the Mountain Lions.
