FINAL FOUR
The Mountain Lions return to the MEC Semifinals for a third straight year after defeating Wheeling 96-71 Friday in the quarterfinal round. The 2026 conference postseason marks the first time in program history that Concord has made the semifinals in three straight MEC Tournaments, and this year marks the first time in any postseason making the final four since CU made the WVIAC Semifinals in three straight years from 1994-96. The Mountain Lions have made the MEC Semifinals as three different seeds—No. 3 in 2024, No. 4 in 2025 and now as a No. 6 seed in 2026. And on Friday, head coach
Todd May moved into fourth place on the MEC Tournament wins list with his eighth victory. Fairmont State head coach Tim Koenig tops the list with 19 MEC Tournament victories.
HIGH FIVE
In the victory over Wheeling, CU had five double-digit scorers. It marked the seventh time in 2025-26 that the Maroon and Gray got five players to double figures. Junior forward
Boubacar Djigo notched his team-best ninth 20-point game of the season. Friday's contest was also Djigo's fourth 20-15 game of the year as he finished with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Senior guard
Savier McCall poured in 15 points which was his third-highest scoring game of the year—his most since February 7 versus Point Park. Sophomore guard
Josiah Rickards had all 12 of his points in the first half as his scoring average in three career MEC Tournament games now stands at 18.0. Junior forward
Anfernee Hanna and sophomore guard
Brendan Hoffman each had 11 points. It was Hoffman's second double-digit scoring game in the last four games, but only his fifth for the season.
RARE COMPANY
Djigo continued his historic season Friday afternoon. The Cleveland, Ohio native is now just one of two players in CU men's basketball history with 350 rebounds in a single season. Djigo has grabbed 355 boards this year, joining Ron Ward from the 1990-91 season and his 463 rebounds as the only players in program history to pull down 350 boards. Additionally, Djigo tied West Virginia Wesleyan's Tanner McGrew from the 2015-16 season for fifth in single-season double-doubles in the MEC history. Friday was Djigo's 19
th double-double of the year. The last MEC player to record 20 double-doubles was former Notre Dame standout Will Vorhees with 23 during the 2018-19 season. Djigo can tie former Charleston player Justin Coleman for fourth on the single-season MEC double-doubles list on Saturday with his 20
th double-double.
PERFECT GAME
Offensively, the Mountain Lions shot their fourth-highest percentage of the season in the win over Wheeling, hitting 53.5 percent. Defensively, CU limited the Cardinals to 40 percent, and held a 48-28 margin in rebounding. Concord improved to 12-3 this season when it shoots at least 45 percent from the floor. The Maroon and Gray also moved to 11-3 on the year when holding the opponent under 45 percent shooting. Friday marked the 21
st time in 2025-26 that Concord has outrebounded the opponent. CU has only won two games this year when being outboarded, and is now 13-8 this year when winning the rebounding battle. Along with Djigo's 16 rebounds, junior forward
Eldon Terry aided in grabbing six rebounds versus Wheeling. CU connected on 10 three-pointers with Hoffman and junior guard
Khamani Wertz each making three. Concord moved to 8-2 this year when making 10 or more triples. And the nine turnovers that Concord committed versus Wheeling were tied for the third fewest this year.
TAKING ON THE CHAMPS
Saturday night's tilt will be the first time Concord faces Fairmont State in the MEC Tournament since the 2018 quarterfinal round, an 89-84 CU win. FSU is the defending MEC Tournament Champions after outlasting West Liberty in triple overtime last year. In fact, Fairmont State head coach Tim Koenig has won two tournament championships in his time as the Fighting Falcons' lead man, also winning in 2021. In the 12 previous MEC Tournaments, the only team to repeat as champions were the 2022 and 2023 West Liberty teams. Saturday night will be Concord's fifth straight time playing FSU when it is ranked in the top 10 nationally. The Mountain Lions are 2-2 in the previous four, winning both on the road in January 2025 and earlier this season on December 20, 95-87. Hanna had 23 points while Djigo went for 22 points and 11 rebounds. Hoffman netted 16 points off the bench.
BEST IN THE MEC
The top two rebounding teams in the MEC meet in the conference semifinals. Fairmont State overwhelms teams on the glass with a rebounding margin of +8.2. After Friday's lopsided rebounding advantage, CU now sports a rebounding margin of +5.9. The Mountain Lions are the best offensive rebounding team in the MEC, grabbing 13.9 offensive boards per game. Concord has 15 or more offensive rebounds in three of its last four games, including 15 versus Wheeling. Djigo's 4.5 offensive rebounds per game are third in Division II. The Mountain Lions are just 2-6 in games this season when getting outrebounded, but one of the wins came in December at Fairmont State. FSU has only been outrebounded twice this year, in mid-November against nationally-ranked Daemen and a month ago at the Carter Center against Concord.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
10- Concord was a perfect 10-for-10 at the foul line against Wheeling—the first time not missing a foul shot since the 2021-22 season against Wheeling (8-for-8).
37- Djigo's plus-minus against Wheeling which was the highest for any CU player this season, surpassing Hanna and Wertz's +31 from early January against Salem.
58- Concord's point total in the second half at Fairmont State—the highest in any half this season for CU.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING FALCONS
Fairmont State rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit to escape an upset bid by Frostburg State in the MEC Quarterfinals, winning 80-77. David Jolinder led a balanced scoring attack by scoring 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting. Miguel Martinez netted 15 points off the bench. First Team All-MEC performer Drey Carter had a near double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds in the Frostburg State contest.
Rene Diop scored all 11 of his points in the second half Friday afternoon. Fairmont State has won 16 of its last 17 games entering the MEC Semifinals.
