BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Junior
Braden Ward of the Concord University men's track & field team has been voted as the Mountain East Conference Athlete of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Ward, a native of Princeton, West Virginia, is the MEC Athlete of the Week after his performance in the sport's longest event—the 10,000-meter run. In the 6.2-mile race at the 49er Classic hosted by Charlotte, Ward clocked 31:23.92 which was good enough for fourth in the field. Ward notched the fastest time in the MEC in the event this spring.
The performance was six seconds shy of Ward's career-best time in the 10,000-meters.
Back in January, Ward was named the MEC Athlete of the Week during the indoor season. However, Monday's announcement is his first outdoor weekly honor from the MEC.
CU travels to the Dr. Jack Toms Invite hosted by the University of Lynchburg Friday and Saturday.
