ATHENS, W.Va. – Freshman kicker
Christian Torres of the Concord University football team has been placed on the Fred Mitchell Midseason Award List, the organization has announced.
The Fred Mitchell Award is given to the top non-FBS kicker in the country. The midseason award watch list features 41 kickers from FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA
This season, Torres is 8-o-f-9 on field goal tries and is 31-for-33 on extra points. The Brock, Texas native has also recorded 10 touchbacks on kickoffs. This past weekend at West Virginia State, Torres became the second Concord kicker with a 50-yard field goal in program history as he booted through a 50-yard try—it was the second-longest field goal in program history behind on a pair of 52-yard boots by Andy Ellington during the 2013 and 2014 season.
Torres also had a 49-yard field goal against Charleston at Callaghan Stadium earlier this season.
He ranks in a tie for ninth in Division II in field goals made (eight) and is top 25 nationally in points scored by all players, and sixth among all kickers.
