HISTORICAL DAY
The Mountain Lion offense piled up 73 points and 627 yards of offense in Concord's road win at WVSU—it was the first time CU defeated the Yellow Jackets since the 2015 season at home. The 73 points signaled the third-most points in program history—the 1924 Mountain Lions scored 107 points versus Charleston and Concord tallied 83 points against West Virginia State in 1966. And it was the fourth-time ever Concord posted 70 points in a game as CU scored 72 points in a home win over Southern Virginia in 2010. The 73 points were the fourth most in an MEC game. The yardage total of 627 were the most for a Mountain Lion offense since a school-record 735 versus Charleston in a 68-60 home win during the 2022 season.  For the game, Concord averaged 11.6 yards per play. Five of the 10 touchdowns for CU were of at least 60 yards, including all three touchdowns scored by junior wide receiver
Cordale Russell.
HISTORICAL DAY PART II
Some individual performances at West Virginia State included graduate quarterback
Devin Kargman throwing for career highs in both yards (401) and touchdowns (six). His 401 passing yards were the most for a CU quarterback since Jack Mangel threw for 450 yards in 2022, also at West Virginia State. And only Mangel's seven touchdowns versus Wheeling in 2022 trump Kargman's six for the single-game program record. Russell needed just four catches to amass 217 receiving yards as he became the sixth Concord receiver in to tally a 200-yard game. Russell became the first CU player with three touchdowns in the same game since Jarod Bowie in 2022 versus Alderson Broaddus. Sophomore wide receiver
Dom Collins hauled in two touchdowns for the third straight game as he became the first CU player with three consecutive two-score games since Bowie in 2022. And finally, freshman kicker
Christian Torres booted through a 50-yard field goal to become just the second Concord kicker with a 50-yard field goal, joining Andy Ellington in 2013 and 2014.
CENTURY RUSHER
Despite the outburst through the air, the Mountain Lions still found enough snaps to rush for 226 yards in the game, averaging 6.5 yards per carry. In the contest at WVSU, Concord recorded its first individual 100-yard rushing game of the season as it came from sophomore running back
Curtis Clark. He finished with 119 yards on 10 carries, including a 75-yard sprint to the end zone in the second half—it was CU's longest rushing play since the 2024 home matchup with Glenville State. Before Saturday, Clark had 11 carries for 42 yards on the season and was Concord's fourth-leading rusher on the season. The Greensboro, North Carolina native also hauled in a 39-yard touchdown from Kargman. The scores were Clark's first touchdowns since the 2025 season finale at Ferrum.
LAST LINE OF DEFENSE
The Mountain Lions were +2 in turnover margin at West Virginia State thanks in part to not turning the ball over on offense and the two CU safeties, sophomore
Berlin Campfort and junior
Ar'Terrian Godfrey, both intercepting passes. Campfort snagged a pick on the first play of the second half and ran it back 25 yards for a score—Concord's second defensive touchdown of the year. Godfrey picked off his second pass of the year, and the fifth of his career, with a fourth-quarter interception. Godfrey is just one of 10 players in the MEC with at least two interceptions through six weeks of the season. Campfort added a career-best nine tackles at West Virginia State as he finished as CU's leading tackler in the contest.
PLENTY OF OFFENSE
Last year's game between Concord and Glenville State turned into an offensive showcase with both teams going over 425 yards of offense as GSU outlasted the Mountain Lions, 42-30. CU was balanced with 230 yards passing and 232 yards rushing, but was unable to slow down Glenville State. The 232 yards on the ground for the Maroon and Gray were the most in a single game in 2025 with 128 of those coming from former quarterback
Tyler Mizzell. Junior wide receiver
Que Moore was Concord's leading receiver with seven catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns. The Mountain Lions have had success running the ball each of the last two years against Glenville State as they rolled up 253 yards on the ground in a narrow 24-21 loss to GSU on Homecoming 2024.
STOP THE STREAK
CU will be seeking to win its first Homecoming game since the 2015 season. Even though the 2022 Mountain Lions won nine games, one of the two losses came to Fairmont State, 10-9, on October 1, 2022. Other recent close calls include the 2024 setback against Glenville State and a 34-32 defeat versus West Virginia State in 2021. Last season, Concord took a 21-17 lead into halftime on Homecoming against WVSU before falling, 28-21. Saturday will be the fifth matchup with Glenville State on CU's Homecoming since the 2010 season, and the Maroon and Gray is 2-2, wins in 2010 (49-14) and 2012 (14-9) and losses in 2018 (41-35) and 2024 (24-21). Last year, the two teams matched up for GSU's Homecoming.
BIG BOY BATTLE
Saturday's matchup will pit the offensive line that has done the best job of keeping their quarterback upright against the best pass rushing team in the MEC. Glenville State has only surrendered six sacks in more than 200 pass attempts this season. The six sacks allowed are the fewest in the conference. Meanwhile, the Mountain Lions have 19 sacks this season which is first in the MEC and ranks in a tie for 11
th in Division II. The Maroon and Gray defense has at least two sacks in every game this season, and at West Virginia State junior linebacker
Justin Hayes picked up his second sack of the year while freshman defensive lineman
Martevias Burse flew in for his first career sack. Graduate defensive lineman
Shambre Jackson continues to lead the MEC with 4.5 sacks in 2026.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
5- Collins is top five in Division II in both receiving touchdowns (tied for second/9) and yards (tied for fifth/741).
30- Senior offensive lineman
Aidan Parsons is slated to make his 30
th career start Saturday afternoon, the most among active Concord players.
249- Yards needed by Kargman to reach 2,000 for the season in just seven games. He is averaging 338 yards passing over the last three games.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Glenville State comes into Athens on a four-game losing streak since a 28-24 win in the second game of the season against Millersville. GSU is only averaging 14.8 points per game while giving up more than 37 points per contest. JD Sherrod, who was teammates with
Devin Kargman at Kent State in 2024, has thrown for 852 yards and five touchdowns with four going to one of the best freshmen in the conference, Kyree Bunny. Caden Harris has 344 yards receiving while Bunny has 295. Jacob Clark has 39 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks to lead the Pioneers' defense. Ty Wickliffe has recorded two interceptions.
