AIR IT OUT
Graduate quarterback
Devin Kargman threw for a career-best 305 yards and three touchdowns in Concord's 43-42 loss at West Liberty Saturday afternoon. With his performance, Kargman jumped to first in the MEC in passing yards for the season (1,040) while moving into second in the conference in passing touchdowns with seven. The Camden, New Jersey native leads the MEC in passing yards despite not completing 20 passes in a game yet this season. However, Kargman is averaging 16 yards per completion in 2026. Sophomore wide receiver
Dom Collins brought in six receptions for 150 yards and two touchdowns, his fourth career multi-touchdown game. Junior wide receiver
Cordale Russell added his second 100-yard game of the season with 103 yards and his first touchdown of the year. Heading into the Frostburg State matchup, Collins is eighth in Division II in receiving yards (466) and tied for eighth in touchdowns (five). Kargman is 29
th in the country in passing yards.
POINTS!
The Mountain Lions went over 35 points for the third time in four games to start the season with the offensive outburst at West Liberty. The 147 points that CU has posted in four games are the most points in a season through four games since the 2014 season when the Mountain Lions rolled up 207 points in the first four games of a season that ended in the NCAA Division II National Semifinals. Concord's 36.8 points per game leads the MEC and is tied for 26
th in Division II. The 19 touchdowns that the Maroon and Gray have scored are second in the MEC, but West Liberty has scored 22 touchdowns in five games compared to CU's four games. And the Mountain Lions' 20 first downs per game are third in the conference. Concord is coming off a game where it had 27 first downs versus WLU—the most in a single game since the 2022 season.
SACK ATTACK
At West Liberty, the Concord defense recorded five sacks to extend its MEC lead in sacks to 13 for the season. The 13 sacks are tied for 17
th in Division II. Senior defensive lineman
Nick Mercer collected his third sack of the season to move within 0.5 sack of teammate and graduate defensive lineman
Shambre Jackson for the MEC lead. Sophomore defensive back
Christian Henderson, junior defensive lineman
Jayden McCurdy, junior defensive lineman
Michelot Sine and sophomore defensive lineman
Joshua Smith all recorded their first sacks of the year. The five sacks by Concord were the most in a road game for the Mountain Lions since 2022 at West Virginia Wesleyan. The CU defense goes up against Frostburg State who has allowed 10 sacks in four games.
BALL-CATCHING BACKS
While junior running back
Greg Burrell is fifth in the MEC in rushing yards (263), the Las Vegas, Nevada has also made an impact in the passing game for the Mountain Lions. At West Liberty, Burrell rushed 15 times for 57 yards while also snaring seven receptions for 66 yards as he finished as CU's third-leading receiver against the Hilltoppers. Burrell was the first Concord running back to rack up 50 or more receiving yards since JQ Brown rolled up 57 yards in November 2024 against Wheeling. The seven catches for Burrell tied Collins for the most receptions by a Concord pass catcher this season. For the year, Burrell has eight receptions for 98 yards. Frostburg State has only allowed eight catches by opposing running backs this fall.
GOOD ON GOOD
Concord's high-flying passing attack will be tested in a major way Saturday. CU leads the MEC in passing yards per game at 262.3 while also ranking 25
th in Division II. Frostburg State is only allowing 133.8 yards per game which is tops in the conference and eighth in the country. Dating back to last year, CU has passed for 200 or more yards in seven straight games, and nine of the last 10 games. The Mountain Lions had a 2025 season-low 86 passing yards at Frostburg State in the previous meeting. For the Bobcats, FSU has only allowed 200 or more passing yards once this season. Despite the stingy passing defense, Frostburg State only has one interception for the year which came two weeks ago at West Liberty.
MONEY DOWN
In Concord's first two games of the year, the Mountain Lions converted less than 40 percent of third-down chances. However, against Charleston and West Liberty, CU was 11-for-24 on third down (45.8 percent). Concord goes into the weekend leading the MEC with a third-down conversion rate of 42.9. Frostburg State is one of the best third-down defenses in the conference, ranking second in getting the opponent off the field. The Bobcats have only allowed 17 third-down conversions and their 31.5 percent on third down is second in the MEC. For the FSU offense, it has had trouble staying on the field as they have only converted 16-of-51 third downs (31.4 percent) which is sixth in the MEC. CU is coming off a game where it only allowed 2-for-11 on third down to West Liberty.
START SOMETHING NEW
CU is only 1-5 all-time versus Frostburg State, including a 33-7 loss last year in western Maryland. The lone win for the Mountain Lions against FSU came on the road in 2022 by a score of 23-22. The last matchup in Athens saw the Bobcats win 34-3 in 2023. Last year, Collins was limited to one possession at Frostburg State before a season-ending injury—he caught one pass for 25 yards at FSU. Senior linebacker
Brodee Rice had three tackles, a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery against the Bobcats last season. The Mountain Lions will try to prevent Frostburg State from winning their first road game of 2026 after losing to Shepherd and West Liberty by eight points or less to start the year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
13- Explosive plays by Concord at West Liberty (runs of 10 or more yards and passes of 20 or more yards), the most for CU since the 2022 season.
69- Consecutive pass attempts by Kargman without an interception since throwing interceptions on back-to-back attempts versus Bluefield State.
87- Years since Concord has played in five straight one-possession games (1939). CU has played in four consecutive one-possession game this season.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Both of Frostburg State's wins have came at home. FSU is similar to Concord in the fact that the Bobcats have dropped a pair of games by one possession this season, a 34-26 loss at Shepherd and a 30-24 overtime defeat at West Liberty. Typically a run-heavy offense, Frostburg State is only averaging 126 yards on the ground. Quarterback Jordan Brooks has thrown for more than 800 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, FSU has only produced 15 negative plays and five turnovers in four games. Of the 44 players on Frostburg State's offensive and defensive two-deep, 37 are from the state of Maryland.
