SALEM, Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team had the sprint events lead the way at the Bast-Cregger Invite Friday and Saturday at Roanoke College.
Sophomore
Cassidy Hammonds blazed to a personal-record time of 7.97 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish third. The performance also boosted her inside the top 10 in the Mountain East Conference in the event.
Hammonds backed up her 60-meters with a top-10 showing in the 200-meter dash. She clocked 27.24 seconds which was good enough for eighth.
Hammonds won the long jump with a mark of 5.07 meters to cap her meet.
The Mountain Lions had three athletes in the top 20 of the 400-meter dash. Freshman
Violet Wall ran to a time of 1:04.67, finishing 11
th. Fellow freshman
Avery Lilly got around the oval in 1:08.39 for 15
th, and junior
Charlotte McGinnis clocked a personal-record time of 1:10.47 to place 18
th.
Also in the field events, junior
Meagan Poticher was 18
th in the weight throw of 11.91 meters. Meanwhile in the shot put, she just missed the top 20 by finishing 21
st with a toss of 9.94 meters.
Concord's final regular-season indoor meet comes February 6-7 at the Jewel City Invite hosted by Marshall.
