Concord Tied for Fifth After Day One of MEC Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team has eight points after three scoring events at the Mountain East Conference Championships.

CU is tied for fifth as it received all eight points from sophomore Cassidy Hammonds in the javelin throw. She had a career-best throw of 38.25 meters which was good enough for second place.

Junior Meagan Poticher finished 11th in the javelin with a mark of 30.01 meters. Sophomores Gracie McAlister (27.62 meters) and Jenna Webb (25.15 meters) were 13th and 15th, respectively. Webb's throw was a career-best mark.

Hammonds, the reigning MEC Champion in the heptathlon, is in second through four of the seven events. She is 37 points behind Laura Delgado de Torres of Charleston. Of the 2,616 points, Hammonds scored 809 in the 200-meter dash as she ran a time of 25.86 seconds in the win. She was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking 15.76 seconds which resulted in 744 points. The remaining events for Hammonds on Monday will be the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.

The first event Monday in the heptathlon will be the long jump at 11:45 a.m. The rest of the day's event get underway at 6:00 p.m. on the track.
