ATHENS, W.Va. – The trio of sophomore
Bramley Childress, senior
Jonny Sweeney and sophomore
Andrew Tickle have been honored with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District recognition, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Childress, a native of Abingdon, West Virginia, garners his first Academic All-District award after a season that saw him finish top 50 in the Atlantic Region in both the 5,000-meter (44
th/15:28) and 10,000-meter runs (44
th/33:23). The effort during the outdoor track season came on the heels of Childress putting together a strong finish to the cross country season as he placed 44
th at the Atlantic Regional Championship. Childress ran faster on grass for 10,000-meters as he clocked 31:58 in November. In the classroom, Childress is a business administration major carrying a 3.55 GPA. He has been on the All-MEC Academic Team in his time in the Maroon and Gray and this past year was named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA.
Sweeney earns his academic accolade by being top 30 in the Atlantic Region in the decathlon. Sweeney's point total of 2,513 at West Liberty in April was 29
th in the region. The Summersville, West Virginia native finished up his college career with a 3.97 GPA with a degree in biology. He will move onto medical school in the fall. Sweeney was a finalist for the Concord Champions Gala Male Scholar-Athlete Award this spring. And Sweeney has been on the All-MEC Academic Team five times in his career.
Tickle, a native of Riner, Virginia, had a top-15 3,000-meter steeplechase time in the Atlantic Region as he posted a time of 9:38.52 at the MEC Outdoor Championships, finishing sixth. Tickle finished seventh. His time of 15:22 in the 5,000-meters was 40
th in the Atlantic Region. Tickle was a regular contributor to CU's success in cross country as he was a scoring runner in six of seven meets. Tickle is a secondary education in the classroom with an emphasis in history education. He has a 3.50 GPA.
Based on his credentials, Sweeney has advanced to the CSC Academic All-American ballot.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, student-athletes must rank in the top 50 of the Atlantic Region in a specific track & field event OR be in the top 50 at the regional cross country championship while carrying a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
