MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Concord University men's track & field team is holding in the top five through two days of competition at the Mountain East Conference Outdoor Championships at Mylan Park.
Concord has 31 points in fifth as CU is eight points behind fourth-place West Liberty.
With the decathlon finishing up Monday afternoon, freshman
Luke Davis scored 5,863 points and placed second. After two wins in the first five events, Davis was the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles (16.41 seconds), discus throw (34.78 meters) and the javelin (42.18 meters) Tuesday as he solidified his All-MEC Second Team honor in the decathlon.
Along with Davis' eight points in the decathlon, fellow freshman
Tobi Adebulu scored four points for Concord after he placed sixth overall. Of the five events contested Monday, Adebulu was sixth or better in four, including placing third in the discus (29.23 meters). Adebulu tallied 4,534 points in the decathlon.
The Mountain Lions picked up 11 points in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Monday evening. The sophomore trio of
AJ Skeens,
Braden Ward and
Andrew Tickle placed fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively. All three ran personal-record times in the race as well. Skeens clocked 9:31.13. Ward came through in 9:34.03 and Tickle stopped the timer at 9:38.52.
CU had two of the top three times in the 400-meter dash prelims. Senior
Ian Gardner sprinted 48.18 seconds. Freshman
Brady Prior came through in 48.92 seconds. Both ran personal-record times.
Senior
Ethan Board secured his spot in the 800-meter run final Tuesday afternoon by running a career-best time of 1:53.84, the fifth-best time in the prelims. All eight finalists in the 800-meters went under 1:54.5.
The final day of action picks up 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with field competition followed by track events at 1:00 p.m.
