All-Region Release

NEW ORLEANS – Senior Ian Gardner of the Concord University men's track & field team has been selected to the United Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Atlantic Region Team, the organization has announced.

Gardner, a native of Hinton, West Virginia, earns his first all-region selection for his performance in the 400-meter dash during the outdoor season.

At the Mountain East Conference Championships in late April, Gardner clocked a program-record time of 47.63 seconds on his way to claiming the MEC Championship in the event. Gardner's time was 0.15 seconds faster than Dewayne Smith's time from the 2004 season.

Gardner ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region in the 400-meters this season, and his time was the fastest by any MEC athlete. Additionally, Gardner extends the streak to nine consecutive years of the CU men's track & field program having at least one all-region athlete. But, he is the first USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region performer in the 400-meters for the Mountain Lions.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top three ranked relay team.
