LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team competed at the Liberty Open Friday and Saturday.
The 5,000-meter run performances by junior
Katy Walkup and senior
Madison Cornett headlined the action for the Mountain Lions.
Walkup ran a personal-record time of 18:45.65 which was sixth in the field at Liberty, and moved her up to 10
th in the Mountain East Conference in the event this winter. Cornett followed closely behind in a showing of 18:46.23, also a career best, which was seventh, and vaults her to 11
th in the conference.
CU collected two top-15 finishes in the high jump. Freshman
Kendall Lilly tied for eighth as she cleared 1.40 meters. Junior
Lilly Jackson also went over 1.40 meters which tied for 12th—based on number of previous clearances.
Sophomore Izzy Wiliams was impressive in the sprints for the Mountain Lions. She ran 26.49 seconds in the 200-meter dash which places her 16
th in the MEC. She also moved up a handful of spots in the MEC in the 400-meter dash as she ran 1:01.26 to place her 11
th in the league.
Williams was also on Concord's 4x400-meter relay that ran a season-best time of 4:19.01. Williams was joined in the event by freshman
Cassidy Hammonds, junior
Emma Jenkins and freshman
Jenna Webb. They combined to finish 15
th in the field.
The Mountain Lions wrap up the indoor regular season Saturday, February 15 at Roanoke College's Joe LaRocco Invite.
