Ward Wins 5,000-Meters in Season-Opening Meet at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Concord University men's track & field team opened up the indoor season at the Liberty Kick Off Thursday and Friday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
 
On Friday, junior Braden Ward won the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:15.03. Sophomore Brandon Canaday clocked 15:31.09 in the event as he finished third. Junior Bramley Childress was a second back in fourth, and sophomore Reese Hickey checked in at 15:35.66 to place fifth.
 
Freshman Johnny Walkup sported a time of 16:28.03 to finish 12^th.
 
Sophomore Dallas Ford had a mark of 6.11 meters in the long jump to finish 15^th. And junior Shawn Bennett tossed 11.90 meters in the weight throw to place 20^th.
 
The Mountain Lions will take the Christmas break and be back in action January 23-24 at the Liberty Open.
