SPLIT THE POINTS

On Wednesday, Concord stayed three points ahead of Charleston for second in the MEC South by playing to a 3-3 draw against the Golden Eagles. Heading into the final four games of the year, CU has 21 points while Charleston is on 18 points. The three-goal game was spearheaded by two assists from senior forward Caitlin Webster who recorded her second career two-assist contest. One of the goals went to sophomore midfielder Tiana Campbell who netted her MEC-best 10th goal of the season. Webster leads the conference in assists (seven). Sophomore midfielder Stephanie Tovar recorded her third goal of the year while junior defender Katie Garratt netted her first goal of the year on a 45-yard free kick—the first goal for Garratt since October 2023 at West Virginia State.

LOTS OF GOALS, BUT NO WINNERS
In Wednesday's tie, it was the most goals for the Mountain Lions in a draw since the 2002 season when Concord and Wheeling Jesuit finished in a 4-4 tie in Athens. Wednesday's draw also guaranteed CU's most ties in a season—three—since the 2021 season when the Maroon and Gray went 20-1-3. The last time Concord had four or more draws in a season was 2018. Entering the weekend, Concord has scored three or more goals in three of its last four games.

LEAGUE LEADERS
Sunday's game at West Virginia State will be a showdown of the top two teams in the MEC South as CU goes for the regular-season sweep of the Yellow Jackets. Freshman midfielder Daisy Cook scored in the 55th minute of the late September meeting before sophomore forward Taryn Kelly provided an insurance goal in the 78th minute for a 2-0 win. Freshman forward Taryn Kelly and Tovar provided assists in the victory. The Mountain Lions outshot West Virginia State 18-9 in the first game this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Loughborough recorded five saves. CU is 3-1-2 in its last six games against West Virginia State.

INDIVIDUAL ACCOLADES
Campbell is the only player in the MEC with 10 or more goals this season, but West Virginia State Leila Karam starts the weekend in a three-way tie for second in goals scored with nine. Webster is two assists clear of second place in the conference which features a tie between West Virginia State's Ece Evin and Wheeling's Lily Hanna. Webster has an assist in four straight games while Campbell has netted at least one goal in three of the last four contests.

BREAKING THROUGH
Among the three ties for the Mountain Lions this year was a 0-0 draw at Davis & Elkins September 21. The draw with the Senators came despite Concord outshooting D&E, 19-7—that included 16 shots in the second half. The attempts by CU were evenly distributed as no Mountain Lion took more than three shots. Freshman midfielder Molly Watters and Webster each fired three shots while both shots for Cook were on goal. The scoreless draw at Davis & Elkins snapped a five-game streak of the Mountain Lions scoring at least four goals against the Senators.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
West Virginia State only has two blemishes on its conference record—a loss at Concord and a draw at Frostburg State. WVSU has scored one more goal than Concord this season, 36-35. Evin has five goals to go with her five assists. Seven different Yellow Jackets have scored two more or goals this season. Poppy Bastock has a goals-against average of 1.15 and has saved 76 percent of shots that have come her way.

SCOUTING THE SENATORS
Despite just one win on the season, Davis & Elkins has only allowed 18 goals which is three fewer than Concord. But, the Senators are last in the conference in scoring (10 goals). The only two games this season that Davis & Elkins has scored two more goals came at the beginning of the month in back-to-back games versus Point Park and Wheeling. Goalkeeper Gabriela Acevedo turned away nine CU shots on target in September, and she has made four or more saves in five games this year. Sophia Brown has three goals.
