Concord Registers Season-Best Performances at Hornet Open

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Concord University women's track & field closed the month of March by returning to the University of Lynchburg for a second straight week for the Hornet Open at Shellenberger Field Saturday.

The top performance for the Mountain Lions came in the 1,500-meter run where graduate student Emily Wallace improved her Mountain East Conference-leading time by three seconds as she clocked 4:38.92 to win the event.

Sophomore Katy Walkup ran a career-best time of 5:18.85 to finish sixth. Freshman Charlotte McGinnis (5:33.25) and sophomore Colette Lindley (5:37.02) finished 15th and 18th, respectively.
Wallace placed sixth in the 800-meter run as she stopped the timer at 2:21.34.

The Mountain Lions picked up several top marks in the field events. The trio of sophomore Lilly Jackson, freshman Meagan Poticher and Alaina Mills all had season best throws in the javelin, and in the case of Poticher a career best. Jackson placed 10th with a mark of 28.17 meters which is now fifth in the MEC. Poticher was 11th with a toss of 27.55 meters. And Mills finished 13th with a throw of 26.11 meters.

Jackson had a season-best jump of 1.40 meters in the high jump to finish 12th. And in the long jump, freshman Nadiyah Abdussalaam had a season-best jump of 4.80 meters to place 15th. Jackson marked 4.69 to finish 18th.

Elsewhere in other field events, Poticher placed 12th in the shot put with a toss of 9.74 meters.Wallace finished 15th with a mark of 9.63 meters.

Freshman Izzy Williams was eighth in the 400-meter dash as she sprinted 59.69 seconds.

Other top performances for the Mountain Lions were sophomore Alexis Anzevino in the 400-meter hurdles (10th/1:20.20) and graduate student Abbey Wallace in the discus (19th/26.90 seconds).

Concord will split the team next weekend with athletes at Lee's Flames Invite in Cleveland, Tennessee and the University of Charleston's Golden Eagle Invite.
