LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team competed at the The Burg Open hosted by the University of Lynchburg at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex Friday afternoon.
The Mountain Lions took five spots in the top 20 of the mile run, led by graduate student
Emily Wallace finishing fourth in the event with a showing of 5:24.03. Junior
Madison Cornett clocked 5:38.66 which was good enough for 12
th. Sophomore
Katy Walkup followed in 13
th with a time of 5:47.38. Sophomore
Emma Jenkins came through in 15
th (5:51.80). And junior
Erin O'Sullivan ran 5:56.65 to finish 18
th.
The trio of Wallace, Walkup and sophomore
Emma Londeree had strong showings in the 3,000-meter run. Wallace clocked 11:11.13 to place ninth. Walkup was two spots behind in 11:19.05. Londeree was 15
th as she stopped the timer at 12:03.49.
Concord had two top 10 finishes in the high jump. Freshman
Nadiyah Abdussalaam cleared 1.40 meters to tie for sixth while sophomore
Lilly Jackson cleared 1.35 meters to tie for eighth.
In other field event action, freshman
Meagan Poticher tossed 8.92 meters in the weight throw to claim 14
th. Graduate student
Abbey Wallace tossed 8.35 meters for 16
th, and senior
Shayla Short marked 7.86 meters to place 17
th.
Wallace had a throw of 9.13 meters in the shot put to finish 16
th. Short was 18
th (8.88 meters).
Abdussalaam was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles as she clocked 10.29 seconds.
Sophomore
Talayna Holmes sprinted 8.03 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish sixth. Freshman
Izzy Williams came through in 10
th (8.13). Williams also picked up her own sixth-place showing in the 200-meter dash with a showing of 26.34 seconds. Freshman
Marin Parker was 20
th (28.03 seconds).
The 4x400-meter relay of Jenkins, Parker, Wallace and Williams were the runners-up as they combined for a time of 4:26.04.
Other top finishers included Abdussalaam (19
th/4.59 meters) and Jackson (20
th/4.55 meters in the long jump.
CU competes at the two-day Finn Pincus Invite January 19-20 at Roanoke College.
