CHARLOTTE – The Concord University women's track & field team competed at the Charlotte 49er Classic Friday and Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.
The Mountain Lions made their move up the Mountain East Conference Performance List with seven athletes getting inside the top 12 in the conference in their respective events.
The top performance came from sophomore
Cassidy Hammonds who assumed the MEC lead in the heptathlon, scoring 4,578 points in the seven-event sequence. She netted her most points in the 200-meter dash as she posted 818 points, running 25.76 seconds. Hammonds clocked 15.42 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to score 787 points. And the other top event for the Lee, Virginia native was the 800-meter run where she scored 695 points, running 2:29.82.
Freshman
Violet Wall is now fourth in the 800-meters in the MEC after running a time of 2:17.79. She finished 17
th. Wall is also among the top five in the MEC in the 1,500-meteter as she stopped the clock at 4:46.66 at Charlotte. Â
Three Mountain Lions moved up among the MEC leaders in the 5,000-meter run.
Junior
Sara Turner came through in 20:04.09 to take over seventh in the event in the conference. Fellow junior
Piper Doughton ran a personal-record time of 20:41.19 to move up to ninth. And junior
Abbey Londeree clocked 21:17.61 which is 11
th in the MEC.
Junior
Meagan Poticher recorded the sixth-best javelin mark of the spring in the MEC by tossing 30.37 meters. She also notched a personal-record throw in the hammer (30.55 meters) and a season-best mark in the discus (30.92 meters). Also in the throwing event, freshman
Chloe Cox had a career-best throw of 33.88 meters in the hammer.
Sophomore
Cierra Parker cleared 1.58 meters in the high jump to place 12
th. Fellow sophomore
Kendall Lilly went over 1.43 meters to finish 13
th.
CU returns to action March 27-28 at the Dr. Jack Toms Invite hosted by the University of Lynchburg. Â
