ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team collected 11 event wins at the Mikey Cox Distance Classic Friday and Saturday at Callaghan Stadium.
Junior
Sara Turner was responsible for two wins as she ran 43:15.81 in the 10,000-meter run in the first event Saturday. She later won the mile in a time of 6:23.84.
Freshman
Violet Wall went under 11 minutes in the 3,000-meter run as she clocked 10:51.56 for the individual victory. Freshman
Avery Lilly (sixth/11:58.46), junior
Abbey Londeree (seventh/12:33.62), senior
Emma Londeree (eighth/12:41.39) and freshman Molly Jones (ninth/12:49.75) were also in the top 10.
Junior
Charlotte McGinnis captured a win in the 5,000-meter run as she crossed in 21:18.21.
Lilly, McGinnis, Wall and sophomore
Jenna Webb teamed up to win the distance medley relay in a time of 14:10.61.
Though distance events were the focal point of the meet Saturday, field events took center stage Friday afternoon.
Freshman
Chloe Cox was a double winner in the discus and hammer. She tossed 30.33 meters in the discus while throwing 30.51 meters in the weight throw. Junior
Meagan Poticher was the runner-up in both events with a toss of 30.10 meters in the hammer and 29.44 meters in the discus.
Sophomore
Cierra Parker just missed her own school record in the high jump as she cleared 1.70 meters—her school record is 1.71 meters. Sophomore
Cassidy Hammonds marked 5.68 meters in the long jump to win the event.
Freshmen
Elna Albisson-Simon and
Alison Miller both cleared 1.50 meters in the pole vault to claim wins. And along with a pair of second-place finishes, Poticher marked 10.22 meters in the shot put to pick up the win.
CU is in action March 19-21 at the Charlotte 49er Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina.
