BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Freshman outside hitter
Meg Williams of the Concord University volleyball team has been selected as the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, presented by The Health Plan, the league office released Monday afternoon.
Williams, a native of Shady Spring, West Virginia, helped the Mountain Lions to a 4-0 weekend at the Cavalier Classic to begin the season Thursday and Friday.
The newcomer rolled up 61 kills in 15 sets, an average of 4.1. She hit .233 and threw in 26 digs and eight blocks in wins over UVa.-Wise, Lees-McRae, Johnson C. Smith and Davis & Elkins.
Williams started the tournament with 18 kills and a .214 hitting percentage in a four-set win over UVa.-Wise. She came back later on Thursday with 17 kills as CU rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Bobcats in five sets. Williams tallied eight kills as Concord rolled to a sweep of Johnson C. Smith to open action Friday.
In just three sets versus Davis & Elkins, Williams notched her first career double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs while hitting .289 for the match.
Williams is the first MEC Player of the Week—offensive or defensive—for Concord since Lindsay Maddox in October 2019.
West Liberty's Nyia Setla was voted as the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Mountain Lions put their perfect early-season mark up against Emory & Henry 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in the home opener.
