CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team finished ninth at the Charleston Invite Monday and Tuesday at Berry Hills Country Club.
Over 54 holes, the Mountain Lions scored 899 (304, 301, 294) which was their best 54-hole performance since the West Liberty Invite in the spring of 2022.
Junior
Indiana Eades led the way for CU as he shot 213 for the tournament which was three-over par, good enough for a tie for sixth. Eades started Monday with an even-par round of 70 before firing a 74 in Monday's second round. He came back with his best round in the Maroon and Gray by shooting a 69 Tuesday. In fact, Eades had not broken 75 in his time at Concord. Among the highlights for Eades was starting the back nine Tuesday with three birdies in a four-hole stretch. He recorded nine birdies in all.
Fifth-year senior
Carson Proffitt was consistent with rounds of 75, 76 and 74 which tied him for 40
th at 225. The Camp Creek, West Virginia native had two birdies in each of the first two rounds, and five total.
Sophomore
Zan Hill rebounded from an opening-round 86 to shoot 73 and 74 in the second and third rounds. Hill's second round score matched his best round at CU, also shot at Berry Hill last spring. He finished up at 233.
Junior
Peyton Watts was two shots off the pace of Hill after rounds of 78, 78 and 79. Fifth-year senior
Michael Growe Jr. recorded rounds of 81, 84 and 77. And sophomore
David Gibb went 80, 80 and 84 over 54 holes.
Tzu-Wei Huang from UVa.-Wise edged Glenville State's Benjamin Fernandez (201-203) for the individual win. Charleston was 11 strokes ahead of Glenville State (851-862) for the team title.
Concord returns to the course at the Dr. Wally Edgell Classic at Canaan Valley Resort September 18-19. It will be the final fall regular season event before the Mountain East Conference Championship in early October.
