Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Puts Four on CSC Academic All-District Team

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's cross country and track & field teams have placed four student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization released Wednesday afternoon.

Graduate student Hannah Altizer, sophomores Madison Cornett and Erin O'Sullivan and senior Emily Wallace were honored Wednesday with their performances in cross country and track & field as well as their dedication in the classroom.

Altizer, a native of Riner, Virginia native is a double graduate of Concord. She earned her undergraduate degree in accounting with a 3.95 GPA before graduating with her master's in business administration with a perfect 4.0 GPA. On the cross country course, Altizer has been named All-Mountain East Conference three times, including a first team selection in 2021. She, along with Wallace, were CU's first team all-region performers in cross country program history in 2021. Altizer has also been the MEC Runner-up in the indoor mile twice and was third place in the 1,500-meter run outdoor in 2021.

Cornett carries a 3.78 GPA in the classroom as a biology major. The Beckley, West Virginia native has been in the top 25 of the MEC Cross Country Championship in each of her first two seasons. She made a big stride during the recently-completed track season as she finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run at the MEC Championships in a career-best time of 39:48. Cornett also qualified for 5,000-meter run at the MEC Championships this past spring.

Through four semesters of college, O'Sullivan, an Athens, West Virginia native, sports a perfect 4.0 GPA as an education major. O'Sullivan was All-MEC Second Team in cross country during her freshman campaign, just missing out on All-MEC First Team with a 12th-place finish. Last spring, O'Sullivan was the MEC Runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She scored points for CU in the steeplechase this year with a fifth-place showing at the MEC Championships.

Wallace, a native of Dry Fork, Virginia, completed her undergraduate career with a GPA of 3.54 in elementary education. Wallace successfully juggled the strains of student teaching as she put together another stellar campaign through the cross country season as well as the indoor and outdoor track seasons. She was named All-MEC First Team in cross country for a third straight season. She followed it up her second straight appearance on the All-Atlantic Region Team. Wallace was a podium finish in the indoor mile (third place) and was also third in the 5,000-meters at the MEC Outdoor Championships. Wallace will continue her education in CU's master's program.

All four student-athletes are now eligible for CSC Academic All-American status.

To be considered for CSC Academic All-District, student-athletes must participate in at least 50 percent of competition, be a significant contributor to overall team success, maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be of at least sophomore status in the classroom.
