Concord Finishes Second at Home Meet

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's track & field team finished second at the Concord Open Friday night at Callaghan Stadium.

CU scored 103 points and was the runner-up to winner Bluefield State who scored 163 points.

The Mountain Lions had one individual winner and one relay win as sophomore Cierra Parker cleared 1.65 meters in the high jump to claim victory. The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Avery Lilly, sophomore Kendall Lilly, junior Kiley Smich and freshman Violet Wall combined to run a season-best time of 4:24.34 to pick up a win.

Individually, K. Lilly also scored points in the high jump as she placed fifth with a clearance of 1.40 meters.

Concord occupied spots two, three and four in the 5,000-meter run as sophomore Larah Blevins was the runner-up in a showing of 22:56.03. Junior Abbey Londeree was third in a time of 23:59.03. Senior Emma Londeree crossed in 24:07.48 which was fourth.

CU was equally impressive in the pole vault where four athletes were in the top six. A. Lilly led CU by clearing 2.25 meters in third place. Freshman Elna Albisson-Simon was fourth with a mark of 1.80 meters. Freshman Chloe Cox matched the height in fifth. And freshman Molly Jones cleared 1.35 meters in sixth.

Cox and junior Meagan Poticher were in the top five of the discus as Cox tossed a personal-record distance of 34.02 meters to finish third. Poticher was fifth at 30.77 meters.
Poticher also placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 9.85 meters.

In the middle distance events, junior Piper Doughton clocked a personal-record time of 5:37.25 in the 1,500-meter run to finish sixth. Jones was eighth as she ran 5:53.15. Junior Charlotte McGinnis came through in 2:38.09 in the 800-meter run. Doughton was strong in the half mile as well in a time of 2:44.49, good enough for fifth.

Smich finished third in the long jump with a distance of 4.84 meters. Meanwhile, Wall and Smich teamed up for a pair of top-eight finishes in the 400-meter dash. Both ran career-best times with Wall (fourth) coming through in 1:00.17 while Smich (seventh) stopped the clock at 1:01.86.

Sophomore Jenna Webb placed eighth in the 200-meter dash to round out the scoring athletes for CU. She clocked 28.19 seconds.

The Mountain Lions compete at the Jasmine Claggett Invite hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan April 18.
