UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY
For the first time since 2019, the Mountain Lions travel to Fairmont State for a regular-season game. Just five players on the current roster have played a game at Duvall-Rosier Field—a 2-1 Concord win three seasons ago. Fifth-year forward Leah Foster provided an assist on CU's first goal and had the game-winner in the 79th minute. Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Leah Marsh made her first career start at FSU in 2019 as she saved one shot. Senior forward Rachel Bell took a team-high four shots in the 2019 meeting while senior defender Zoe Belding and senior midfielder Michelle Brogden also started as freshmen.

SLOWING DOWN THE PACE
Concord has held Fairmont State to one goal or fewer in the last seven meetings. Last season, Concord eliminated FSU from the MEC Tournament in the semifinal round with a game-winning goal from senior midfielder Courtney Smith in the 88th minute in a 2-1 win. The teams tied 0-0 last year in the regular season even though the Maroon and Gray outshot the Fighting Falcons 25-5. CU has eliminated Fairmont State in three straight postseasons. During the spring 2021 conference tournament, the Mountain Lions scored a 3-0 win with Bell and Smith both netting goals. And Concord took the MEC Championship Game in 2019, 2-0.

FINDING TRACTION
After Sunday's game, both teams will have completed the first half of the MEC slate. Heading into the weekend, Concord and Fairmont State occupy third place in their respective divisions. Fairmont State has 11 points which is three better than Notre Dame. Concord enters the weekend with 10 points, just one ahead of Davis & Elkins. If the postseason began today, both teams would qualify. However, both teams would have to work through the MEC Tournament on the road.

FAIRMONT STATE AT A GLANCE

MEC Record: 3-2-2
Home Record: 2-1-1
Away Record: 1-1-2

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING FALCONS
The only other team that has as many draws in the MEC as FSU is Alderson Broaddus with both teams tying earlier this fall. Fairmont State has a plus-one goal difference (10-9). Kiera Kuzinski has accounted for six of the 10 goals. One of the best goalkeepers in the MEC, Taylor Kennedy is putting together another stellar season with 31 saves in 39 chances.
