CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University women's golf team placed 10
th at the University of Charleston Invite that concluded Tuesday at Edgewood Country Club.
Concord shot a team total of 730 over the two-day tournament with rounds of 371 and 359.
Fifth-year senior
Melinda Goda paced the Mountain Lions with a top-20 finish as she carded rounds of 82 and 78 to tie for 17
th at 160. On Tuesday, she played the front nine at two-under that included a birdie, eagle finish to the front side of Edgewood. Her birdie was on a par-4, 318-yard hole. The eagle on the par-5, 437-yard ninth hole came a day after she birdied the same hole. She added a birdie on the par-3, 145-yard fourth Tuesday.
Goda's eagle on Tuesday was the only one of the entire tournament.
Sophomore
Mary Denny strung together rounds of 84 and 83 as her total of 167 was 28
th on the leaderboard. Denny's best stretch of the tournament came on Tuesday as she birdied three of the final five holes on the front nine with a four on the par-5, 462-yard fifth, a three on the par-4, 312-yard seventh, and a birdie on the ninth.
Senior
Taylor Bohan was 53
rd with a total of 198 and freshman
Josie Montgomery placed 57
th. Fellow freshman
Anna Fry finished 62
nd.
Ohio Dominican edged out Charleston by a stroke (614-615) for the team title. ODU's Sydney Devore and Wheeling's Emily Holzopfel shared medalist honors with a total of three-over, 147.
CU begins a busy stretch with two tournaments in four days starting with the Mercyhurst Invite Friday and Saturday at Lake View Country Club in Erie, Pennsylvania.
