FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Concord University women's golf team placed fifth at the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic that was contested Sunday and Monday at Green Hills Country Club.
CU posted scored of 400 and 377 to finish with a total of 777. Charleston won the tournament with a score of 625.
After an opening round of 86, freshman
Kendra Lugo improved by three strokes and moved up three spots from 19
th to 16
th during the second round as she totaled 167. She was just five strokes away from a top-10 showing. Lugo opened up Monday's final round with two birdies on the front nine—the two par 5s, the third and the eighth. Her score of 39 on the front nine Monday was her best stretch of golf for the tournament.
Sophomore
Sara Matos Tamargo shaved seven strokes off her round two score. She opened Sunday with a 97 before coming back with a 90. Her total of 187 was tied for 26
th.
Freshman
Reagan Friel tied her spring season best round Monday with a 97 on her way to total of 205. She finished 31
st. Sophomore
Alexandria Denny carded a pair of 109s to place 35
th.
The individual champion was Charleston's Mari Filippa Larsen whose total of 153 was three strokes better than teammate Lucia Martin.
Concord will compete at the Draper Spring Classic April 20-21 in Draper, Virginia to wrap up the spring season.
