LAST TIME OUT
Concord wrapped up the regular season two weeks ago at the Bill Lennox Invite hosted by Slippery Rock as the women's team finished fourth while the men's team won the meet. Senior Emily Wallace was the top finisher for the Mountain Lions as she placed fifth with a time of 23:14 for the 6,000-meter course. Graduate student Hannah Altizer (17th / 24:03) and sophomore Madison Cornett (20th / 25:22) secured top-20 finishes. Freshman Katy Walkup was 24th.
CU men's team won the meet with 38 points as Slippery Rock was the closest with 70 points. Graduate student Issac Prather notched his fourth individual win of the fall with a time of 24:37 on the 8,000-meter course. Fellow graduate student Cedric Drennen (seventh / 25:58), junior Preston Prather (eighth / 26:08) and sophomore Logan Zuchelli (10th / 26:09) were all in the top 10. Junior Caleb Hatcher just missed the top 20 with a 22nd-place showing (26:59).

MEC CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
The Mountain Lion men have a streak of nine consecutive years of finishing in the top three of the MEC Championship, including winning three straight conference championships from 2015-17. Concord packed three runners in the top nine last year and five in the top 19 to finish second. I. Prather is the defending individual champion as he navigated the course in 26:08. P. Prather was eighth and Zuchelli was the 2021 MEC Freshman of the Year as he finished ninth. Both ran 27:29. Drennen has been selected to the All-MEC Teams four time in his career, including a first team selection in the spring of 2021.

In both of her MEC Championship races, Wallace has placed in the top five with fourth and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Altizer found her way into the top 10 last season with an eighth-place showing. Sophomore Erin O'Sullivan was the All-MEC Second Team last season as she finished 12th. Cornett just missed the All-MEC Second Team as she crossed 24th. In six of the last seven MEC Championships, CU has been in the top three. Senior Gretchen Mills was 20th to earn All-MEC Second Team in 2019.

Charleston is the pre-race favorite in both races Saturday morning as the Golden Eagles are nationally-ranked with both genders. The Mountain Lions have not raced head-to-head with UC this season, and has only seen West Liberty and West Virginia Wesleyan in previous races. Prather's stiffest competition to repeat as the individual champion will be Charleston's Joao Pereira and Thomas Termote. Davis & Elkins will figure into the team championship picture.
