MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Concord University men's cross country team clinched a second consecutive bid to the NCAA Division II National Championship by finishing third at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championship Saturday morning at Lamb's Creek Cross Country Course.
Concord scored 104 points as it put four runners in the top 20, and edged out Davis & Elkins by 24 points for the final automatic spot from the region to the national meet.
Graduate student
Issac Prather defended his regional championship by clocking 29:25 for the 10,000-meter terrain. Prather pulled away over the final 800 meters to finish three seconds ahead of Charleston's Thomas Termote.
Sophomore
Logan Zuchelli ran in the top 10 for most of the race before settling for 11
th place in a time of 30:04. Junior
Preston Prather and graduate student
Cedric Drennen moved through the field together as Prather placed 15
th in 30:10. Drennen clocked 30:16 to finish 18
th.
Junior
Caleb Hatcher finished 62
nd (59
th in scoring) as he came through in 31:41 to round out the scoring. Senior
Alex Watty was a spot behind Hatcher as he completed the course in 31:43. Sophomore
Ethan Board completed the CU field in a time of 32:33 for 93
rd.
Charleston won the meet with 33 points. Edinboro joined the automatic qualifiers with 47 points.
Drennen, the Prather brothers and Zuchelli all earned all-region by finishing in the top 25.
The National Championship race will be December 2 in University Place, Washington at 1:00 p.m. eastern time.
