ROANOKE, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team placed eighth out of 16 teams at the Davis & Elkins Men's Invite that finished up Tuesday afternoon at Stonewall Jackson Resort.
After a team score of 325 in Monday's first round, the Mountain Lions returned to form Tuesday to shoot 300 and finish at 625 for the tournament. CU finished just 13 strokes out of the top five as a team.
Senior
Noah Clark led the effort for Concord as he placed third with a two-day total of 145, four shots off the pace of medalist Mitch Hoffman of Charleston. Clark shot two-over, 74 Monday and came back to card a one-under, 71 Tuesday. Of the nine rounds, Clark has competed in this fall, eight have been 75 or better.
Fifth-year senior
Brett Laxton was six shots better Tuesday as he climbed the leaderboard. After an opening-round 80, Laxton fired off a 74 to finish at 154 for the tournament and in a tie for 20
th.
Junior
Carson Proffitt rebounded from a first-round 91 and posted Concord's second lowest score of the tournament with a 73 Tuesday. Proffitt moved up to tie for 57
th. Freshman
Grayson Murray was also a mover on day two as he scored an 80 after a first round 87.
Murray and sophomore
Grant Rosenbaum both finished with a total of 167 after Rosenbaum put together rounds of 85 and 82.
Junior
Colin Wiley carded consecutive rounds of 86 at Stonewall Jackson Resort.
Davis & Elkins won the team competition at 590.
Monday and Tuesday marked the final tournament for CU before the Mountain East Conference Tournament starts Monday at Avalon Lakes Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio.
