Concord Plays Glenville State on Senior Night

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team celebrates Senior Night when it hosts Glenville State 7:00 p.m. Friday in a Mountain East Conference match at the Carter Center.

RECORDS
CU is 8-17 this season and 3-12 versus the MEC.
Glenville State is 3-18 and sports a mark of 1-14 against conference foes.

SUPER SIX
Prior to Friday's contest, head coach Kate Dillon will honor a six-player senior class that includes defensive specialist Kelli Ellison, middle hitter Sheridan Herron, middle hitter Olivia Houk, outside hitter Jessica King, setter Imani Rodgers and right side Peyton Wiseman.

Ellison has played in 23 of 25 matches this season and ranks in the top five in the MEC in digs per set (5.17). The Peterstown, West Virginia native collected a career-best 33 digs in a four-set win at Salem earlier this season and overall has 11 matches with at least 20 digs this fall. Ellison played in her 50th career match at Charleston Tuesday night and has 553 digs for her career.

Herron needs three blocks against Glenville State Friday night to enter into the top 10 in program history in career blocks as she currently stands at 245. The Jonesville, Virginia native is seventh in program history in hitting percentage (.231) as she has rolled up 528 kills in her time in the Maroon and Gray. Herron is aiming to hit .300 or better in back-to-back seasons. She enters Friday hitting .338 this season,

Houk has appeared in 17 matches with time played in 26 sets. Overall, she has 13 kills and four blocks. During the shortened spring season, Houk rolled up a kill per set. As a freshman in 2018, Houk tallied seven service aces in a sweep of Bluefield State.

Friday night will be the 50th career match for King as she has appeared in 120 sets. This season, King has set career highs in kills (72) and digs (46). Earlier in the fall, the Peterstown, West Virginia native tied her career high with eight kills in a home win over Salem.

Rodgers is one of nine players in program history with 1,000 or more career assists. The Virginia Beach, Virginia native is over 500 assists for the season and over 1,600 for her career in the Maroon and Gray. Her 6.08 assists per set for the fall ranks seventh in the MEC. Rodgers' career high in assists came during the spring season in a win over Glenville State when she handed out 42.

Wiseman will suit up in her 84th career match Friday night as she has been in the lineup for 236 sets. At the end of October, the Grandview, West Virginia native went over 200 career kills. She is fourth on the team in blocks this season (28) and has been asked to play several positions in 2021 due to injuries in the middle part of the season.

SEEKING A SWEEP
The Mountain Lions will be looking for their fourth consecutive win over Glenville State and the third straight victory inside the Carter Center over the Pioneers. In mid-October, CU swept GSC as it held Glenville State to 15 points or less in all three games. The Maroon and Gray hit a season-best .373. Freshman outside hitter Hannah Steele went for a match-high 14 kills while junior middle hitter Amber Hall notched nine more kills. The two spring matches between the sides went five and four sets, respectively, as Concord swept a doubleheader. Herron led the offense with a career-best 18 kills in the five set contest while Rodgers had the aforementioned 42 assists.

GLENVILLE STATE AT A GLANCE
Glenville State picked up its first conference win of the season Tuesday as it defeated West Virginia Wesleyan in four sets. Skylar Mace (157) and Karlei Shaver (151) have both topped 150 kills for the season. Mace also averages 0.52 blocks per set. The Pioneers are allowing opponents to hit .244 in 2021. Shaver combined for 36 kills in two matches versus Concord last spring.
