Brett Laxton of the Concord University men's golf team take to the links Tuesday as the trio tees off in the 87
th West Virginia Open at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, West Virginia.
The three CU golfers will be part of a field of 135 vying for the title as the top 60 and ties will advance into the third and final round on Thursday after Wednesday's cut line.
All three advanced to the final field of the West Virginia Open by qualifying at Glade Springs earlier in the month—one of six qualifiers around the state. Proffitt finished fifth at the qualifier with a +4, 76. Laxton was one stroke behind as he tied for sixth. Meanwhile, Clark needed two playoff holes to be one of 15 golfers—and of three from the playoff field—that made it out of the Glade Springs qualifying field. Clark shot +7, 79 to make the playoff.
Laxton will be the first Concord golfer to tee off Tuesday as his first shot comes at 7:55 a.m. Clark will be 20 minutes later on the 10
th tee while Proffitt will begin his round at 1:30 on the 10
th tee as well.
In their collegiate careers, Laxton has an average of 75.5 at Glade Springs' Cobb Course in 19 rounds while Clark has posted an average of 76.1 in 14 rounds. And Proffitt scored 76.6 per 18 holes in six rounds at Glade Springs during his freshman season.
The defending champion of the West Virginia Open is David Bradshaw who is seeking his 12
th overall title at the tournament.
